Woke up around 9am and came out of my tent to find most people packing their gear up. Colm had cereal out for breakfast but it didn't really sound good to me at the time. I slowly packed up my personal camping gear, picked up garbage here and there, and then started to work on the camp Kitchen cleanup. There was so much stuff, it took a long time to get everything cleaned, packed up, moved and loaded into the truck. The Park Aide made at least 5 trips into our site to pick up garbage bags while I was packing and there were still at least 10-15 bags of garbage left when I drove out. It's amazing how much trash 50 people can create.
The weather Monday was really nice. It was windy but blue sky, sunny and 65. Best day of the trip unfortunately. The weather was iffy for most of the trip, sprinkling a bit but not too much and not very warm.
On my way out I dropped the payment off for the Park Rangers, pumped a tank full of gas, got an iced mocha and headed up over the pass. Traffic was really good up until just past Index on highway 2. At that point I found myself quickly dropping from 65mph to exactly 0. It took me approximately another hour to go a little under 10 miles. The traffic was so bad that the first 4 posts about this trip (which I had written in MS Word on Sunday) were uploaded from my laptop while I sat in the line of cars on the Highway. I even managed to clean up some Junk Mail in my inbox and check for important emails.
From a bit past Sultan the traffic sped up to about 40mph and once I got onto Hwy 522 in Monroe it was smooth sailing again. Got home, unloaded my truck into the garage and took a bath. Finally home.
