Well, after
indieradiochic and Debbie were here shortly today, and Jason, Krissy and James were here the other night, I realized I REALLY hate the door between my room and the bathroom. I can hear everything going on in the bathroom, the light comes through and it just plain sucks. Especially with 3 people live here (sometimes 4 with how much Jim's girlfriend is here). Anyway, I got a wild hair up my ass Sunday evening that I was going to do something about it and I DID. What follows is a photo story of the process. I don't have pictures of the shopping experience but other than having to go to two different Lowes to get what I needed, it was uneventful. The actual work started around 7pm. It's now a little after 11pm. Since the pictures make this pretty long
Here is the illustrious bifold door between my bedroom and the main bathroom. It is NOT sound proof.
This is the bathroom side of the door. You can almost see into my room through the slats.
Here is the view into the bathroom from my room. How fun is this?!
Wait.. Whats this? A new pre-hung six-panel 28 inch right hand textured door? Where did this come from? Thank you Lowes!
I guess we'll need some tools. James also stopped by to help and brought a level.
Okay, so first we score the edges and remove the moulding around the door. Xacto knives work well.
Ahh, now a nice clean opening in the wall. What you didn't see is the blunt trauma with screwdrivers and prying and tearing about of the door jam.
Here is the new door getting ready to be placed in the opening. Looks lovely doesn't it?!
Okay, it's been leveled and tacked in with a couple nails. Getting closer!
Ahh, pretty well lined up and almost completely shimmed
Okay we finished the shimming, got better screws with a late run to Fred Meyer since Home Depot and Lowes were closed. Got the moulding all put in place now. James also installed the styling lever door handle you see here.
Okay, all mounted, and DONE!!
Well, the hinges are different and there are 3 instead of 2 on the other door.. but OH FREAKIN WELL.
The bathroom side of the new door. Yes, I know I have to do some more work. Still have to put a few more nails in the moulding, caulk the gaps, putty the screw and nail holes and paint. But isn't is SOOO much better?
