[It's the middle of the night, but that doesn't seem to deter this communicator from randomly turning itself on. It's also dark enough that it's nearly impossible to see anything, just a shadowy, nondescript figure crouching just in front of it.]
"Use this."
[Whoever the figure is, he leans forward to pick up the communicator, the back of the device scraping softly against the cracked pavement that had been underneath it before he lifts it up completely. The view then shifts abruptly--he's now standing.
If you've been watching this long enough for your eyes to adjust, you might just make out that he doesn't quite look human. His skin almost looks... green? And it almost looks like he's got some sort of shell. He almost looks like--a turtle? Yup. He's a walking, talking turtle. Will wonders ever cease?
It's obvious that he's distracted from the recording device, as he's looking at the street around him.]
This... isn't New York? [He sounds confused, but also strangely tired. And he seems to be shivering. Discedo might be getting warmer, but it's still pretty cold at night for a cold-blooded turtle.] It wasn't this cold before, either.
[After a moment, he looks straight up at the sky. There's cloud cover, blocking out most of the sky, but there's one expanse where quite a few stars can be seen] No, the stars aren't right. ... This isn't even the Northern Hemisphere.... [A very long pause.] Or the Southern Hemisphere.
[He's silent for a moment, then shakes his head.] So, then, where am I? What planet is this? What brought me here?
[The turtle doesn't get any answers, and after a few moments, he looks down at the camera again. If you've really gotten used to the darkness, then you can see confusion go over his face.]
... It's recording? [He starts messing with the device, probably trying to shut that function off.] Why is it record--
[And that's where the transmission ends. He doesn't know it, but he's about ready to get some answers!]
