Dear Yuletide Author

Dear Yuletide Author:

First, I want to apologize for delaying so long in writing this. It's a busy time of year for me, but that doesn't mean I'm not totally excited about the story you've so kindly signed up to write for me. Okay, you probably didn't sign up to write just for me, but it kinda feels like you did, so thank you, thank you, thank you in advance.

Second, I want you to know that I'm easy. Really. I'm going to love whatever you write for me, so don't spend any time worrying about it. If you write something you love, I'm sure I'll love it too. And since you signed up for at least one fandom in common with me, I hope you can write something you really really love.

You probably want a little more guidance than "write what you love". I know I always do. So, let's see what I can do.

Squicks first: humiliation, rape, torture, hurting animals or children, love triangles in which one person is left with no resolution, deathfic. When it comes to humiliation, rape, torture, hurting animals and children, I mean gratuitously. If the incident serves the story, go ahead, but don't make it the point of the story.

Things I love: hurt/comfort; power imbalances evened out by attraction, love, attachment; smut if you want to write it; hidden or buried feelings coming to light; first times; reunions; clever twists; sly humor; playful use of structure; exploration of universal themes or deep psychological truths.

Now onto the fandoms:

1. Old Testament, David and Jonathon.
I'd really like an explicit love story, graphic or not as you're comfortable. I'm also fine with one or more of the wives appearing. If you're not comfortable with the slash, then a story about their friendship works for me.

That's really it right there. But if you want more guidance than that, I like stories that focus on intimacy more than on graphic sex. I'd love a story that dealt with how and why their friendship grew into love, what they understood about each other that no one else did. I love first times and reunions, and the very moment of deciding to reach across the boundary of friendship into sexual love.

But like I said, if you don't feel comfortable with the slash, the friendship story is absolutely fine. I'm interested in who they were to each other and how you see it.

2. C.J. Cherryh, The Foreigner Universe, Bren Cameron/Tabini-aiji.
I love the trust and affection between Tabini and Bren, and Bren's struggle to understand his value to Tabini without the emotional cues he recognizes. I'd love slash, but it's not necessary. Just a story about their relationship.

Much of what I said about David and Jonathon applies to Bren and Tabini as well. There's the power imbalance, the affection and intimacy. In Tabini and Bren's case it's complicated by the fact that Tabini doesn't show love the way Bren recognizes and he's constantly struggling to understand if and to what extent he matters to Tabini. I'd love a story in which Bren finally becomes certain of Tabini's affection, whether it's sexual or not.

3. Looney Tunes, Marvin the Martian.
I don't really care what you do with this story, but I want Marvin the Martian. He can be hero or villain, cross him over with any other Looney Tunes or anyone else you like!

This is seriously just for fun. Have a blast with it, if it's your match with me. I'd love to see him take over the Earth or finally get to "your leader" whoever that turns out to be. He can be the hero of the piece, which might be interesting, learning that all the times we saw him show up and get shut down he actually had good intentions.

If you want a specific prompt: have someone take Marvin to our leader. Feel free to make that a crossover. With West Wing's Bartlett if you want, or anyone else.

4. Monkey Island Games, Elaine Marley.
Elaine! I'd love a story about the plucky heroine. Her POV on Guybrush's various rescues or an adventure of her own. Just have fun with it!

Just like the previous, I want you to have fun here. Whether it's a mystery/adventure/campaign story, a vignette, go for it. The only thing I'm really not interested in is a wedding/sex/sappy romance with Guybrush or a romantic relationship with LeChuck. What I love about Elaine is her independence and her pluck. So I'd love a story that shows her not needing to get rescued or rescuing Guybrush instead.

If you want a specific prompt: one time Guybrush thought he was rescuing Elaine, but really, she rescued him.

Well, that's it Dear Yuletide Author. I hope there's something helpful here for you. I'll be happy with any one of these fandoms, and any story in any of them. So have fun, and like I said, write what you love.

Thank you!

Allie
