Heroes finale finally

Dec 14, 2007 21:43

Okay, so I finally got around to watching the end of volume two of Heroes. I only have a couple of thoughts. I ended up having more thoughts thank I expected to have.

1. Mohinder's awesomeness continues. He was hot, brave, paternal, passionate and clever. Just like I like him.

2. Peter is a dumbfuck. Why does he believe everything everyone tells him? I want him to be the Peter Nathan tries to tell him he is.

3. Nathan and Peter were totally going to kiss, even my husband says so. I wish I felt like that scene weren't so poorly constructed and pointless. I'd feel the squee more.

4. I loved Elle in this episode. Her dialogue with Noah, her determination to make daddy proud of her and forgive her - very plausible sociopathic personality - her attack on Sylar, her frustration at not killing him, her joy at being a hero and saving their lives. NOT because saving lives is intrinsically good, but because Daddy would forgive her. I really love the quiet moment between her and Mohinder when he tells her that.

5. Nathan flying Matt was hilarious.

6. Angela Petrelli should have her own show. I would watch an hour a day of Angela Petrelli being complex and layered and well-acted and amoral. She's amazing.

7. Niki's death is heroic and sad and I wish they'd have given her a storyline through the season and a half we've had her on our television that would've made anyone actually care other than because Micah's grieving. I suppose she could be alive, but I doubt enough people care to make it worth him writing a storyline for her that would make bringing her back worthwhile.

8. Nathan's not dead. By the end of the episode, we're in his POV and everything is going slow. He's not going to die. HRG gave Claire the information that she saved his life with her blood. Nathan did what Claire wanted to do. Any anger that she might've had at him, she's not going to hold at having seen him shot on national television. Claire will likely save him, and likely her flying man - West - will take her to him. Peter can stop time, there are a million simple ways Nathan can be saved and the only way he could be dead for good is if no one who knows anything does anything worth doing.

9. Sylar and Sylar/Mohinder were interesting and compelling in this episode. Right up until they showed me that Sylar had been restored to his powers. They should've killed Sylar last season, or let us believe he was dead for as long as possible. His storyline this season did nothing for the overall storyarc, but he might've returned a season later in a different storyline with a vendetta and been more interesting. Comic books, as linaerys has been fond of saying, can never have enough maybe dead villains who can return to plague the heroes.

10. Adam, on the other hand, as much as I dislike the character as he was used this season, was given a great comic book villain death. He's alive, locked in a steel box, and he is going to go even crazier than he already is. If/as/when they decide to let his out, he's a monster with a vendetta.

11. Maya and Molly. Well, I sort of like this. Now that Maya can control her ability, she makes an awfully good potential guardian for Molly. Very few people could withstand her, and she could learn to carry Molly away from the danger before pulling back from releasing the virus. Mohinder/Maya and Molly make a nice, interesting family. I want to see who Maya becomes if she's allowed to grow into the woman who took the initiative to come to the US and has the motivation of avenging her brother.

In sum, I don't think this was a bad episode. I think it was a good wrap and twist off what was a bad or mediocre at best season. I hope it leaves us in position to start off strong and powerful after the strike with a show worth watching.

I doubt anyone really cares what I think about Heroes so much later, but I waited to watch it until I could distance myself from everyone's disappointment and frustration. I found it not near as bad as I expected it to be, and still hope for a better next season.
