Dear Yuletide Writer..

Dear Yuletide Writer,

Thank you so much for offering to write in one of my requested fandoms! *spins and twirls and runs in circles* I hope, very much, that it's a fandom you really wanted to try your hand at, and you'll have fun writing it. Or, well, if not fun (because if you're like me, none of this is ever really fun; it's the most exquisite form of torture) stimulating, challenging, entertaining, and giving you something to bang your head about in the best way for the next two months? *g*

Even though I said most everything I'd want to say in my prompts, you might be looking for a little more direction, or a stronger sense of what I love about the fandoms. I'll try to be brief (flist, I can hear you laughing, hush) or at least coherent.

Up front: If I listed multiple characters in the prompts, you do not have to write them all unless you want to. This statement trumps the yuletide rules; I checked.

General Fic Dislikes:
* death-fic

* dark-fic wherein that's torture, rape, extreme situations, extremely graphic violence; it's not that bad stuff can't happen, just, I don't care to see my characters destroyed without being built back up.

Fic Likes

* character study - I love stories to reveal something about the character I didn't know, or I did know, but it's explained or deepened.

* smut - I've a filthy mind, and I love porn. But I absolutely don't need it. If you want to write it and it fits your bunny, great. If you don't or it doesn't, that's just fine too.

* relationship development - I'm equally interested in first times as in established relationship, friendship as in romance. What I really love is to see characters making connections.

* slash/het/gen - I love them all. Whatever works for you in context is fine with me.

Okay, I'm failing at short, so I'm working at coherent. Here's hoping I'm getting there.

Ugly Betty
I really am fine with pretty much any character(s) here, or pairings. I don't have OTPs in this fandom. Daniel's probably my favorite, and I particularly love his relationships with Alex(is) and Betty as they're emerging this season. But I adore Wilhemina, and her interactions with Marc are priceless too. I'm not a big Claire fan or Bradford particularly, but really really anything else should be awesome!

What I love about this show is its cleverness. There's literally nothing you couldn't do with the show, no crossover that couldn't be done (that I've managed to think of so far anyway), no character combination that wouldn't have interesting sparks. Have fun with it and tell a story you enjoy. I'm sure I will too.

The Black Donnellys
I'm all about Tommy, Kevin, Kate and Ma Donnelly in this show. Jimmy and Sean don't do much for me, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't include them. Jenny, I have sort of a love-hate relationship with. I'd prefer not to see her paired with Tommy, at least as the end result.

TBD won me over with its heart. It's game, gritty, love at its fiercest and filthiest. Tommy's self-sacrifice fascinates me, because he's such a strong person with such powerful dreams, and yet he puts his family first. The episode where he got the job with the painter and then gave it up...it broke me in the best ways.

I wrote a TBD story if you want to see what I thought about the show and the characters. It's here.

Frank Beddor's The Looking Glass Wars

Hm. I like this story/series a lot better in concept than in execution. There's so much neat world-building here, but the character writing sort of fails. The Hatter M graphic novel does a bit better at exploring the character of Hatter Maddigan, but it still doesn't go deep enough.

If you're picking up that I'm interested most in Hatter M, that's probably true, but aside from HEA with Alyss and Jack together, I'll like anything more about this world. I truly love the universe, the mysterious millinery man, the idea of the White and Black imaginations, and the possibilities for beautiful and haunting side stories. I'm not all that interested in porn in this 'verse, but I'm not averse to it either.

Also, if you got here via one of my other requests and find it doesn't suit you, this might be an easy one to pick up. The canon so far is two books and to the best of my knowledge four comic books. :)

The Chronicles of Amber

Oh. Oh. I have such a love affair with Amber. My husband used to read it to me over the phone during the long distance portion of our relationship, to help me fall asleep. So not only do I love the story, I have warm and wonderful associations about it.

Corwin, Benedict, Fiona, the shadow worlds, hell rides, Amber, Deirdre... It's the tone and the feel of this universe that I love most. The sense of possibility, adventure, but all of it thickened into slow time because of the long lives of the princes.

If you got this match for this fandom, it's highly likely you already know what I mean and what I love. Write what you will. I know I'll adore it.

*sigh* So much for short, and for coherent. Comprehensive? (I can hear Brenda, K, Jess, and Lin all laughing now at how I fail, utterly, at writing short. Whatevercakes. *g*) Maybe my flist will find something of interest here. A recommendation for something to read or watch, a memory, a dream, a plotbunny...

I hope you find something here or in my prompts, dear Yuletide writer, something shiny that makes your eyes go wide with "oh, yes, that" but if you don't, rest assured, I chose these fandoms because I love them - not specific pairings or story ideas. Any fic about these shows/books will make me truly happy.

Knowing someone I didn't know (or maybe I do!) cares about fandom and fannish things that I love enough to write a story for me? That? That's the best Yuletide present of all.

Thank you thank you thank you thank you! ♥ and *smishes*
