Definitely Lain.

I was having a discussion with some friends about internet entities/potential deities, as dictated by pop/net culture, etc. I tend to pick up my deities from popular culture, comics, literature, etc., just as much as "classical" sources-they are all stories, after all. :)

We've come up with The Lag Monster (known to old skool MUDers everywhere), Neuromancer, Wintermute...*thinks*, it's been a while, but I am sure we can find more. Oh, Warren Ellis made up an entity Echo Grey that, if she caught on enough in the minds of folks, could probably manifest.

Hmm...oh! What's-his-name from the Lawnmower Man...name not coming to me.

Joshua - Wargames

Add to the list as you will. I've not worked with all of them, but I thought they were good ideas. Ok, except Lain...because Lain is Lain. :)

You are lovely and evil--and I should've thought of that. :)

Oh, and how could I forget?!? Kusanagi. :) 2501.

The former is certainly around, I am sure. This is the figure of her on my altar: http://www.chibitokyo.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1944

Don't forget the Packet Loss Monster :D (I guess that would fit into some kind of 'demons' category in the classical sense).

And there's gotta be a cthulian style spam entity out there somewhere too.
