Beyond Chaos

Last week I was rebuilding my home network, which is hardwired UTP (Coz I mess up all radio transmittions easily) Using Win2003 Server I couldn't think of a Domain name so Called it "Chaos INC" after the 3rd install of the server due to random system stop messages and failures it dawned on me maybe invoking Chaos into my server wasn't such a clever ( Read more... )

My last linux server was called Logrus, a perfectly good chaotic name, or so I thought until the box died a fiery death - the power supply went out with a flash of light, taking the hard drives and who knows what else with it. Of course, that was also the week my laptop had a massive fan failure and threatened to melt down, so it might have been me rather than the computer. Or it might have been the data - the offsite server I back up to had a hard drive failure later that month.

I never went with chaos names either. Something about the idea of Eris on a network just didn't appeal to me.

Back when it was [Neal] STEPHENSON and [William] GIBSON I wrote a lot more. After the last big near-crash, my solo computer became GOODWILL and I started being a lot more open and friendly, but less prolific.

Dare I suggest that it's simply encoding at different bitrates? Perhaps "default" is 128kbit and you have the Windows machine set to encode at 300 or something?
