Ok, here's where I'm coming from

Feb 16, 2008 20:03

I'm just being introduced to tech magick and tech paganism and that's from the point of view of a Chaotist and LaVeyan Satanist. I have a thing for history, the retro, the rustic look, classical styles. It's how I for the most part model my ritual chamber.

That said, I'm also very interested in tech magic. I'm all over the place. It's all around us, it consumes us and our space and there's my computer that I rely on so much; my stereo that I listen to my music on; computers and other tech have such power. I've even started a tech altar. I've used screen savers in rituals and, of course, music. Now we come to the point of my post: I found stereo during a dumpster diving expedition that doesn't work. If you turn it up all the way you can hear the country music tape that it came with, only very faintly. Turn it down a little lower and you get a loud racket something like an off-key trumpet or trombone. There are also points in the volume nob where you get static. The only way to stop all the noises is to turn off the stereo and start again.

This stereo is actually a boom box. If you know anything about the history of hip hop? That excites me. No CDs, only takes tapes, unless you hook up an extra piece to it. It's also rather high tech for the time with the dubbing and the function for recording tapes via a mic and all kinds of options. I love hip hop and I've read much about its history, not to mention my love for music in general (and strange electronic noises such as this broken thing makes).

I also have several older model cell phones that, of course, are unconnected. For some reason I cannot yet fathom it is the "dead", un-working, but still whole pieces of technology that I'm attracted to most of all. I don't think the cell phones make any noise though. Think I could use them for tech divination?

Do you have any advice, any links that have suggestions for what I can use all of this for? I have the tools, the passion, the inspiration but I'm only experienced in the straight forward calling of gods and devils, you know? I have no.... idea how to use tech for magic other than in very basic ways such as the screen saver, music, being in love with weird static etc. I forgot which movie it was, where the little girl spoke to ghosts through a TV screen... the Tech Mages on Babylon 5 with their aesthetics and holograms...

To me, tech magic has echoes of LaVey's Lower Satanic Magic, or maybe something in between Greater Satanic and Lower Magic, conceptually.

Also, I was reading a discussion elsewhere about how older TVs (maybe new ones too?) have components which send out electronic waves (alpha waves?) which may affect the human mind and I'm very interested in that, as well. Care to enlighten me in the details please?

Sincerely Curious, Driven and Passionate,
David
