Out of the frying pan

The elevator whines as it slowly climbs back to the surface. The numbers over the door flicker on and off, floor by floor. Sera doesn't pay either of these things much mind, more busy with trying to stand upright. Her stomach has turned into a gaping hole, and she feels like she'll cave into it before much longer.

She's managed to solve part of that problem by leaning against the wall, to take some of the weight off her feet. Once the elevator reaches the ground level, she has to work her way along the wall before stepping out and putting some faith in her feet to keep her up.

Once it becomes clear she won't collapse on the floor, she's able to put her foot forward, followed by the other. It's the same line of thinking that finally brought her to the elevator; that if she keeps walking, she'll eventually find something. Although now that she's on the surface, she isn't sure what it is that she expects to find. But the first step feels like it's getting out of the Karma Tower...
