(She just happened to be walking by when she sees that thin trail of smoke. It wasn't long before she sees the figure behind that tree.)

Mr...Hatchet? Are you alright?

[He blinks in surprise, but then slaps on a smile.]

That's just "Hatch", darlin', but I'm not much for bein' called "Mister" anyway. Just Quinn is fine. And yeah, I'm fine.

My apologies, Quinn. I've been meeting so many new people in Mayfield that sometimes I'm mixing up names.

So, how have you been doing so far?

[He looks at his cigarette, looks at her, and shrugs.] Ah, well, you know. Zombies 'n all that. Hangin' in there. How 'bout you?

I'm doing fine, thanks for asking. I was fortunate enough to find shelter at the hospital, so I didn't get bitten.

Yeah, I stayed inside. Just me in there, though, so that was kinda annoyin'. But hey, it's over now.

Yes, I guess so. But I've been hearing people talk about Halloween for awhile. Something about last year's celebration, candy, and...hazmats?

[techno_mancer]

Yeah... That was a mess. That happened right before Halloween, and not long after I got here. There was this... runaway from a Soviet town. Grady had a hell of a time catchin' him, Lucy lost her patience and sent the hazmats out. The were burnin' down houses and killin' people to find him. One of the houses on our block blew up.

[He stops, shaking his head and taking a long drag on his cigarette. Quit? Was he crazy?]

That's...that sounds really bad, ten times worse than the zombies...

Is it likely we'll be having something like that again this year?

Who knows. Doesn't seem like we have any escaped Soviets this time.

About a week after Halloween, a bunch of candy showed up at people's houses. People who ate it started actin' like different stuff. Like typical Halloween stuff. Vampires, zombies, mad scientists... That kinda thing.

(She makes a mental note to start preparing for Halloween.)

Do the events always have something to do with the holiday? I think someone once told me about something that happened during Christmas as well.

Not always, but usually. Be sure somethin'll happen over Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years...

I guess I'll just have to be very careful around those dates.

By the way, I overheard your phone call from awhile ago...I didn't know this town celebrated Homecoming. Is this a Mayfield holiday as well?

Definitely be on your toes. Problem is, with this town, ya never know what to expect.

Not much a holiday as an American tradition, I guess. Somethin' high schools and colleges have for alumni. They throw parties 'n' parades, stuff like that. But since we don't want drones ruinin' the fun, we have our own version of it elsewhere.
