2nd Fix

[Quinn was warned he might be given a job here, and lo and behold, he was. But apparently he was a teacher, something he knew nothing about. Sure, calculus he could do, but teaching? High schoolers? Well, it couldn't be so hard, he thought ( Read more... )

[If he dropped by the faculty office sometimes during one of his free periods, he'll see a fellow teacher going over some papers while munching on a bread bun. She swallows and looks up as the door opens.]

Hm? [That's a new face, but you never know.] Good afternoon. Are you looking for someone?

Hey there. Not particularly, no. I'm just new here. Still findin' my way around. You a teacher here too?

Ah, so it wasn't just me. I thought that I never saw you around before! That's right, my name is Ciel, and I teach French and some Composition. This may be belated and it probably still doesn't mean well, but please allow me to wish you welcome anyway! [She smiles warmly.] What's your name?

[He smiles broadly. It's nice to get such a warm welcome.]

Pleasure to meet you, and thanks a lot. I'm Quinn, and ah, apparently I teach calculus. [He holds up the books he's holding.] Who'd of thought?

So, is it hard bein' a teacher here? Dealin' with the, uh, "drones" is kinda weirdin' me out, to be honest.

It's very nice to meet you too, mister Quinn! ...Oh? Are you not good with math? ...Or would you be not good with children? Ahaha, but to answer your question, I don't think so. Or well, it's not much more difficult than anywhere else. A teacher must be patient first and foremost, after all. The drones are all very monotonous, but they do hand in their assignments and don't cause trouble during class. The actual students who aren't happy and don't want to be here are whom I'm having more trouble with, honestly, but it's still manageable with time and effort. Mathematics isn't a convoluted topic like history, religion, or politics either, so you will actually be able to teach useful facts to your students. That would be a good thing, wouldn't it?

Actually, math I'm great with. It's just this whole teachin' thing I'm new to.

I guess so? I honestly never even thought about bein' a teacher before. Gotta say, this was pretty surprisin'. It's gonna take some gettin' used to, like everything else here. But I'm sure I'll be fine!

Pay attention to your students and answer the questions step by step. Just remember that while you know the material, it's highly likely that they don't, so be patient and try explaining it in a way that a person with no knowledge in the matter would be able to understand. It may take some adjusting to, but yes! With that sort of attitude, you'll definitely be able to overcome any problem. It does feel very nice too, when an actual student does learn something from us, and actively try to get involved in the lesson. That may sound a bit strange now, but you should come to know what I mean soon!

[He grins again.] Ya sound like you really know what you're talkin' about. You do this sort of thing back home for a livin' too?

[She giggles sheepishly at that.] No at all. I was attending school myself back in my world, but the teachers did rely on me and I had quite a bit of influence on the student council, despite not being an actual part of it. I've done some tutoring too, which may be why this is all quite natural. Like everything else, teaching and dealing with younger teenagers will come with experience!

You're right. Well I gotta say, you've made me feel better 'bout the whole thing, that's for sure!

[He sets down his books and papers and starts to sort through them.]

Guess all I need to do is sort all this stuff out. Lesson plans and whatever.

A positive outlook does go a long way, so please allow me to assure you that you're the one who made yourself feel like that! Haha, it certainly would help to be organized, but there's no need to push yourself too hard either. Give yourself some time to adjust, and then go at your own pace once you find out what works best for you. It should be pretty straightforward from there. ...That is, as long as your students cooperate too.

I figure if I treat 'em cool, they'll treat me cool. These kids are probably just as bored as I am by this place, so I'll just have to mix things up every once in awhile to keep 'em on their toes.

Exactly. You'll do just fine, mister Quinn. Would you have any other questions about this place? I haven't been here for all that long myself, but maybe I can still be of some help.

[Ffff you are just cute as a button.]

Thanks. Ah, I'm sure I will to be honest, but I'm still having all this school stuff sink in first. I'll try 'n' take this one step at a time!

[But she's married! ... Okay no not really, haha. There's nothing wrong with liking to be helpful, =3=]

There really is no need to worry, then. I do stay after school often to take care of business, so I'm sure that we'll see each other again quite a bit. If you need help or find something new to ask about, please don't hesitate!
