...and marveling at how much of the thought control technology and mechanisms Orwell missed -- (ok, so he wrote it a while back, so I'll give him a break)....but if you want to get a feel for modern thought control, turn your TV to Fox "News"....or perhaps MSNBC, or...etc.
Note how they cover the same topics (ok, so the last few days it has just be one topic for all stations all the time -- Terry Schiavo and the murdering leftist liberals and their judges that all want to kill her...)
Note how in their ostensible 'reporting' they all use the same language, metaphors, and perspectives and virulently dismiss, disregard, and discount any other possible perspective...according to these channels, there is only *one* way of seeing and understanding the "Terry Schiavo" situation, and anyone that has a different opinion is not merely wrong but EVIL.
The demonization of the "liberals", the "judges", and anyone else that has a different option than theirs is remarkable, disturbing, and yet strangely pathetic (in that threatening psychopathic sort of way).
Make no mistake--this is not about Terry Schiavo, nor about any issue of one's right to Life....rather, it seems to just be yet another excuse to whip up public hysteria so that they can lambast and demonize their political and sociological opponents.
The objective in this repeated demonization is to marginalize and discount all political opposition so that only *their* voices are heard, only *their* political agenda is legislated, and so that only their pogrom, er, I mean, um, "program" is implemented.
This is not merely a war of ideas...this is a sociological war to eliminate the people that they see as their opposition...
< dovetailing > ...the scenerio described in 1984 was a lightweight, poorly constructed means of controlling a population...for a more realistic version, turn on your TV, read the "reporting" in your newspapers, and pay close attention...the true mind control is much more subtle, much more professionally manufactured and controlled, and the objectives are anything but benign...
