Lots of stuff.

LJ changed my default skin's layout - "view friends page" is no longer the first entry under the "friends" menu. Thus, my habitual click-click to get to my friends page now directs me to "filter friends page", something which I don't really want to do.

The new layout makes sense, it'll just take some work to get used to.

My goodness, my adviser (who is a very nifty person) must be working overtime - she's sent eleven different scholarship opportunities and internship things to me (and all her other students) today.

But anyway, where was I? Oh, yes, that's right - I was going to start a meme.

The concept is simple - I'm sure all of you who are in fandom are familiar with Psuicide. For those who don't, it's basically faking your own death online as an attention play. See the link for a lot more detail.

So... How would you commit Psuicide?

(Please note, this is all meant in good fun - while psuicides are rather funny, real suicide is not the answer. While I do have the occasional period of depression, I am not going to kill myself. This is not a cry for help. This is a fun, interesting mind game.)

The setup:

Only one sockpuppet for me - someone who knows me here at school. My posts would slowly get darker and darker, and he (probably a guy) would get more and more concerned about "his friend D". There would, of course, be suggestions that this "D" and I are the same. There would be mentions of counseling a couple months before the event, but those wouldn't continue.

The Psuicide note (optional):

I'd leave one, of course. Long and rambling, about how life wasn't worth it, everything was winter, how I couldn't see colors any more, how I couldn't smile, how I was always cold... etcetera, etcetera. Horribly depressing stuff. Hopefully, there would be at least a few people who post encouraging comments before...

The Psuicide itself:

After writing the note in the late evening, I'd go for a walk, without my coat. As school has a rather continental climate, that means winter temperatures hovering around twenty degrees - rather lethal.

Hypothermia seems to be fairly unique - not as obviously fake as, say, getting hit by a car. It also asks some interesting questions - did I want to die? Was I just going a short ways, and thinking I could make it?

The funeral thread:

My sockpuppet would comment on the Psuicide note thread the next day, thanking everyone who had already commented for their kind words, and announce the sorry fact - that I had died of hypothermia the night before. He had seen it in the college newspaper.

The aftermath:

It would, of course, be discovered quite quickly. I have enough friends in the real world who read this that they'd be crying foul in a day or two, even if I was careful about not logging onto instant messenger, not answering phone calls, etcetera.

(to reiterate: I am not suicidal. This is just for fun, and to see how many depraved ways you peeps can come up with to kill yourselves. And now, lunch. And I won't forget my coat. ;) )

Anyways, aside from that, I finished a rather amazing manga - Monster. It's very well done, a real page-turner of a murder mystery. It's also available online, for free. Go read it - it's completed, so there's no chance of getting stuck halfway through on a cliff hanger. It takes a while to get going, but by chapter ten or so, it's going like a freight train. By the ending, it's traveling like the Space Shuttle.

Be forewarned, though - it's a murder mystery, it should be rated at least PG-13 (if you're feeling generous), and probably should be closer to R. If you weren't comfortable with the Matrix trilogy, I'd suggest staying away from Monster. The two are quite similar in levels of violence, profanity, and nudity.

It will make you laugh. If you're the sentimental sort (like me), it'll make you cry. You'll love it, you'll hate it for eating up all your time. You will second-guess everything, and be positively hooked until the ending (which is very well done). Consider yourselves warned.
