so i downloaded the new afi (yeah i know...)
its hard to believe this is the same band i bought the first album of and adored til i discovered powerviolence (and even then theyve always been a guilty pleasure).
i mean the same band that sang about key lime pie and had lines like "wish i were calvin or hobbes so then i could try sugar bombs". in essence, a stupid punk rock band.
now every album has an intro, serious wrist slitting, techno parts, etc etc...wtf is the guy from throwdown singing on this?...i guess days of the phoenix was a pretty tight song but i dont know about this newest one. even sing the sorrow had only a couple jams on it.
but i will give them this, at least theyre not afraid to evolve for the sake of gaining new territory. i guess thats respectable even if i'm going to put on "answer that and stay fashionable" now.
i dont know why i just did a whole entry about afi, but i guess since i've been listening to them for a decade or so at this point they deserve some mention.

EDIT: i just had this flashback of the first "band" i was in...with like ryan murphy and some other people attempting to cover "file 13", somehow managing to turn a four-chord punk song into a technical nightmare. i'm not even sure if we had a drummer. but at age 14 or so i WAS able to pull off an excellent midpubescent davey havoc voice, reaching notes that i can no longer hit. no wonder the catholic church likes em young...
