Random Crap... tangents and whatnot

So me and my roomate where talking the other day about this Bill Hicks (he's a comedian, if you don't know) standup where he's wondering why UFO sightings always happen in redneck-infested backcountry... At one point he says something along the lines of, "I don't want to see a flying saucer up on blocks with a bumper sticker that says 'you'll get my raygun when you pry it from my cold, dead, 18-fingered hand'." And me and my roommate were saying how funny it would be to see vehicles other than cars (especially ones that can fly) up on blocks. Then a week or so later I find a link to The Greatest Thing Ever

On a completely different note, I was listening to the Strokes, and this song, 'Barely Legal' ( lyrics here ) struck me as rather Seishirou/Subaru... y'know, besides the title alluding to the fact that Su's 16 and Sei's 25... that's just a hillarious coincidence. I guess some lines make sense to be delivered by Su and others by Sei (there's even a few that would make sense for Hokuto) but hey, Hokuto did try to make them sing a Karaoke duet at one point... I guess this is a sign of being a total nerd, but oh well.

So I visited Mass Art the other day. It was a backup school for me before the tour, and after the tour.... nothing changed. The fashion program there, though growing in population more rapidly than any other major, is mediocre at best. However, I highly recomend this school for anyone who wants to go to an art college and major in anything other than fashion design. Everything, and I mean everything, else there looked top notch. They have a really cool glass blowing department, a forge, and the largest printmaking facility on the east coast. If I do end up having to go there, at least I'll be taking some splendid electives.

On a related note, I heard about some exhibition being shown somewhere in the boston area of 'fashion with a message' or some such crap. Would people stop trying to be profound with clothing design? One of the reasons I like fashion and design in general is because its still a purely asthetic and/or utilitarian medium, free of the pretentions associated with most art. It can have little or no 'meaning' and still be good, even great design. This wouldn't bother me so much, or maybe even at all, if any of the designs I've seen in this vein (including ones used to advertise this particular show) were actually any good from an objective, asthetic standpoint. If you want to get a point across and don't know how to design something visually interesting, be a writer! The same goes for most clothes that people describe as art-fashion and that kind of stuff. It seems too often just to be an excuse to design unnatractive clothing. Most fashion that's designes as fashion and not art seems to be much more visually compelling anyway.

Well, that was the longest entry I've ever writen, but its really four separate things anyway. If I'd bothered to write things as they happened this would be four enties.
