I've recently started a new job far from home, so I'm staying monday to friday in a flat. Rather than humpf my desktop back and forth, I dug out my old laptop I bought years ago in America (I live in the UK now). It's a DELL Inspiron, Pentium III and after reintalling Windows XP Pro and updating to service pack 3, it runs SO slowly. I've got the latest version of Mozilla Firefox on it along with Internet Explorer 8 or something, the one that says powered by bing and MSN in the menu bar.
My question is how I can make this computer go faster. Should I have an older operating system installed or an older version of Internet Explorer on it. After installing Microsft Security Essentials, it took like an hour to boot up, so I switched to AVG, but that makes hardly any difference.
Is the laptop just a dead loss or is it possible to make it at least useable for internet surfing?!
