Coffee and Ramen
After years and years of coexistence, Touya Akira and Shindou Hikaru had finally come to the conclusion that neither of them, through no fault of their own, would ever grow up. The topic of their many arguments had now become quite ridiculous, spanning from reading material to choice in computer parts. Even the grand difference between Oak Go boards and Red Oak Go boards became the subject of a heated discussion one winter evening.
Then, one day, Touya decided that his hair style had taken enough abuse. He did NOT look like a character from one of those silly Shounen Jump manga Shindou still read, thank you very much. So the next day, he made a deliberate, well-placed comment on the unnecessary need for ramen in a daily diet.
It was entertaining- watching Shindou’s face screw up in question as he sorted out the sentence word by word. Then, it was hilarious- watching Shindou’s face grow angry as he slowly realized what had been implied in that last statement.
Very amusing, indeed.
The next day, Touya found out that his French Vanilla coffee beans had taken a mysterious trip through the sink shredder.
The day after, Shindou woke up to a pantry devoid of shrimp, chicken, and beef flavored ramen.
For a long time, the two of them exercised the well-known proverb involving ‘actions speaking louder than words’.
Their ‘argument’ died as soon as they found a coffee shop that served ramen. (In Shindou’s words, it was a ramen stand that served coffee.)
Then, they exercised a less-popular proverb, this one penance-related. For the next six months, Shindou didn’t stop buying Hazelnut coffee mix until Touya stopped appearing in the ramen aisle of the grocery store.
