Side Story #06: Dreams
The Gate is not a time machine. Edward Elric is not a time traveler.
He remembers little and only in vague details of how he into this time period. He remembers the year 1920, building a rocket, and the rest is a blur.
He strongly believes that the Gate had taken away his memory of how to build the rocket as payment, for he remembers nothing of its construction but only the fact that it existed.
He also suspects that he lost a few years to the Gate as well. It comes in flashes, but the sheer amount of moments he recalls at random times account for more than merely a few years. Also, the oddity of it all was that he still had his body when he passed from his world into Munich for the second him- his hair, height, even fingernails did not progress in growth at all.
He is not sure which is better, having the various different Gates rip off his body parts or having his memory and knowledge removed in such a quiet manner he wasn’t even aware until it was too late to hope for recovery.
His mind and insides felt old while physically, his body was quite young. His mind felt out of his body the same way he felt out of his world.
The Gate is not a time machine and Ed is not a time traveler, for he travels not through time, but between worlds; there’s a difference.
