Title: Bedtime story
Group/pairing: Arashi/ Ohmiya
Word Count: 1039 words
Rating: PG
Summary: Nino can't sleep. Ohno helps him.
Disclaimer: So far I only own two photosets of Sho and a set of Arashi playing cards. I wish I'd own Arashi, but no. I don't. ._.
Author notes: I was inspired by this particular bedtime story from a drama CD series (it's "Shukan Soine". Go ahead and have a listen if you can't sleep. They are really good. :D Hirakawa Daisuke's sweet whispers are soooo loved ). So I decided to adapt the story a little. I hope you guys like it as much as I did listening to it. ^^ Credits go to Black Butterfly for their amazing stories. *^^*

Nino tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. Beside him, Ohno sighed as he gently coaxed Nino's body closer to him and wrapped his arms around him.

"Kazu... you can't sleep?"

"I don't know.." Nino mumbled, "I just don't feel like sleeping at the moment."

"Hmm... I don't know what to do when you say that, really..." Ohno replied, and Nino blinked when he caught a hint of teasing in his voice. And true enough, Ohno was soon dropping kisses on the nape of his neck and his shoulders.

"Oi! Oh-chan! I don't mean that!" Nino grumbled, "I'm just really tired but I can't get my mind to sleep."

Ohno pouted in the dark and wrapped his arms around Nino again.

"Mmm... I'll get some warm milk. Give me a moment," he said and shuffled slowly to the kitchen.

Nino relaxed against the covers, not really knowing why he couldn't sleep. Insomnia, he knew, is pretty common. But well... he would really like to sleep now if his mind would just calm down.

He could hear a vague shuffling of feet and saw Ohno return to him with a glass of warm milk.

"Here, drink up. It'll relax you," Ohno said. Nino accepted the cup and started drinking, while Ohno looked at him thoughtfully.

"... Shall I tell you a bedtime story?" Ohno suggested.

"What? No! I'm not a kid! No need for that!" Nino protested.

"Hey, they even have picture books for adults, you know. The key thing is to relax your mind," Ohno said, "come on... it's worth a try."

".... Do you know any bedtime stories? Apart from the kinky ones you read?" Nino asked with a questioning eye. Ohno laughed.

"Alright. Give me the glass. I'll tell you." Ohno said.

Minutes later, the lights were off and the pair were lying comfortably near each other on the bed.

"Once upon a time," Ohno started, "a cat lived a peaceful, happy life in a village. One day, he was out in the village, exploring the place. He took a different turn and discovered a pool of water bigger than those small little puddles he had seen in the village when it rained. This one was much muuuuch bigger.

Another cat passed by him and said, 'you can't drink that water. I tried it- it's reaaaaally salty!'

The cat blinked curiously and sidled up towards the huge gigantic pool of water, watching it ebb and flow against the golden sand."

" 'Mommy, mommy!' he heard a girl's cry from the distance, 'the sea is so blue and so vast! What would it be like to sail out there?'

'Ah... so this is called the sea?' he wondered as he watched the waves crash just by his feet. But the moment the cold waves touched his paws, he jumped away and ran away into the bushes before peeking out at the sea from behind it.

'It... it touched me..' the cat thought with an embarrassed face and slinked away slowly."

"Every night since then, the cat would go through the village and take that one same turn and hide behind that one same bush just to catch a glimpse of the sea. But he never took a step towards it- he was too shy. Every now and then, cats in the same village would see him leave and wonder if he was going on a long way every night to see another cat he loved. The cat then wondered, from then on, if he was indeed in love with the sea.

He pattered slowly once more to the sea one night, and took a look at the surface of the sea, hoping to catch a glimpse of his face."

"To his disappointment, only his own face with whiskers could be seen from his reflection, and not another face apart from his own. He looked up at the moon with some sorrow in his eyes and walked away. From then on, he never went to the sea again."

"However, he could not forget about the sea after all. He wanted to forget, and yet he did not want to.

'That does it. I will see the sea again one last time.. when the moon blocks the sun and the place becomes dark for a moment. I will go there for one last time, see the sea and never come back again.'

And so, when the day of the total eclipse approached, he took the familiar turn down to the bushes by the sea. Just then, he heard a soft voice from the sea."

" '... Do... Do you dislike me after all?'

The cat was surprised and came out of hiding to the sea, where the waves ebbed as majestically as it always had.

'Well... I thought you disliked me. What with you hiding your face from me and all...' the cat answered.

'I never did,' the sea replied serenely, 'I had always known you were watching from afar. But... I did feel lonely when you ran away that one time and never came back. Why did you?'

'Because I could only see my face and not yours. You hid your own face from me, did you not?'

The sea gave a soft chuckle.
'I don't have a face, you know. I can only reflect my feelings. But you know, that's why you saw your own face- because I care deeply for you.'

And so the cat and the sea finally realised that they liked each other. And even now, that one cat lurks around the sandy shores in the middle of the night to meet with the sea that he fell in love with. The end."

Ohno took a deep breath. That was a lot more talking in one go than he had done in his entire life.

"How was it? Did you li-" he turned to see that Nino was fast asleep in his bed, his fingers entwined with his own.

"There, and you said you won't need that bedtime story," Ohno said, amused as he snuggled closer to Nino and dropped a kiss on his forehead.

"Sleep well, Kazu," he whispered before resting his body close to Nino's and drifting off to sleep after him.
