I think my iphone is finally starting to die. I get messages, but it doesn't do the little alert sound all the time anymore. Also, it tends to hang when sending texts or changing apps or pushing the home button. I thought I'd be able to upgrade sooner, but it appears I won't be able to update until March 1st

Have you tried doing a full reset? Or even just a hard reset?

You might try (first) a hard reset, then (second) a factory reset. Might fix whatever's going wonky in there. Just google them and you should find step by step instructions. Neither is difficult. GOOD LUCK!!!!! ♥
