Carthago delenda est
The first mail that arrived this morning was about the Deal. It's gone through. With immediate effect I'm an IBM employee but, thanks to the second part of the mail, not for long. It seems we are being stripped for assets and what's left over will be handed over wholesale to the Southeastern Asset Management company, where they can pick the rest off and ship that off to any bidders they know of.
As of right now, our machines are being powered down, and moved off somewhere, probably Mulhuddart, but they're even being tight-lipped about that. We don't know what's happening to the staff just yet.
The background hum of the building is almost gone, although the chatter of the contractors means there's still some semblance of life in the building, but once that is gone, we'll just be sitting on our asses surfing the net.
Life in the office will be very different, and right now I think I know how the Carthaginians felt. Finally, my eyes rest on the calendar: April...
