Back from the dead.

Man, it's been forever hasn't it? I think a general update on mike's life is in order.

Well shit, where to begin... basics?

Year 3 of college is down, one more till my degree. I've decided to stay on for my master's, which I can get in one year instead of two if I take the right courses, which I will. Unfortunately, that leaves me taking a few courses this summer, and trust me they suck. Right now I'm taking Physics II with its lab, something I should have finished freshmen year, but I won't get into that.

So I've decided that this is my last summer in IT, and hopefully I'll never work it as a job again (helping friends I'm fine with though, don't worry). I've applied and been accepted as an RA for next year. Which means that I make sure a floor of guys don't die, and in return I get a free room and meal plan, pretty sweet deal. I'm actually more excited than I come off, I've become a bit of a social butterfly in these last few years, and the opportunity to have a job where I'm basically meant to chat with people and try to get them to have fun together and enjoy living in the dorms sounds like a great time. Apart from busting up parties and stuff, which I can deal with, it's mostly keeping my door open, and running a monthly activity. Oh, and patrols a few times a week, which means: do homework, walk building, repeat.

With the end of college coming up, I've been really looking at what I want to do after school. In my Statement of Purpose for grad school, I said that I want to work for the government, or some type of job that actively effects that country (defense contractors), either in security or embedded systems (computers inside other things, like cars, microwaves, missiles, whatever). I guess that's true, I'll be taking some security classes next year. Oh, I took a class in computer architecture, and the professor thought I did well enough to do grad work under him, in the areas of security and embedded systems. Great news as now I can consider writing a thesis. I'm excited!

So enough about school, what about life? I feel like there's a lot of people I've lost connections to, and it sucks. Namely, most of Stoneham, especially Fro and the Jacksons. At least Jess tries to keep her LJ up so I know what she's up to, but I haven't talked to fro or billy in forever, heard fro is living with billy now, which kinda irks me. I'll just go on record for all the inquirers, Fro lived with us for what, 3+ years? And things were OK, everyone got along on the surface. But it got to the point where fro wasn't doing anything, he didn't want to go to school, and he had a decent job, but he was more interested in his band and his friends than getting his life in order. So my folks said to him, consider looking for a place. And he said he would, and never really did. So finally it got to the point where they gave him a date, we were moving ourselves and it just seemed to work. So he moved out, he wasn't happy about it, I'm sure he felt abandoned, but it was tough love more than anything. He'd been told again and again to stop by for dinner and stuff, and if he needed anything just ask. But he didn't, he complained a lot, and sounded like he hated where he was, but he never asked for anything, came by only once or twice. Haven't heard from him since, and I know a good part of that is my fault, but life has been so fucking busy I just forget. Ok, unintentional rant over.

So how about some positive? Um, I'm back at the gym, and trying to watch my weight, I have a feeling it'll be a struggle for me for a long time, but I've been doing my best and people are at least nice enough to say they think they notice something. Aside from that, I've been trying to get out of the house more. I've actually found a few people this summer interested in hanging out and doing stuff. Namely my friend Melissa and I are going to start doing things. This weekend we hit up Hampton beach, and that was a good time. I hope the good times keep rolling, cuz I'm all for it.

Oh, I've suddenly started watching baseball, I don't know exactly how it happened, but enough of my friends are into it that I sat down and watched a game or two of the Sox, and now I'm hooked.

Nothing else I can really think of going down at the moment. But i'll try to update this thing more than once a year.

Take Care,
Mike
