Went to my parents' house to visit Oracle yesterday. She seems to be holding out okay. I've been reading poems to her from T.S. Elliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. I read her the poem about the gumbie cat a lot because, well, she IS a gumbie cat. I also collected some caterpillars and their eggs off my passion vine. They are gulf fritillary caterpillars and I'm excited for when they will turn into butterflies. These guys don't have a dormant period, but their activity slows down as the weather gets colder. It's really exciting to raise insects like this and I'd love to raise a wider variety of creepy crawlies. I've been thinking about maybe raising moths of some kind too. And of course, I'd love to keep a tarantula. I will admit that spiders will occasionally give me the willies, but for the most part I like them. If I find them in the apartment I catch them and take them outside. I miss having a backyard, but I think I have finally acquired enough plants to satisfy my need for green. Surprisingly enough I got some off of craigslist! There is a hummingbird that likes to come to our feeder when I am out tending to my patio garden. I've named her Layla and I know its her because her wings are particularly loud. there is also a boy hummingbird that I've spotted at the feeder too, but I haven't named him yet. Jinx is getting older and bigger and has almost completely lost that baby look that she had when I first found her. I'm guessing she is somewhere around 6 months old now. Billie is a bit more outgoing recently. Daniel and finally got around to hiking some trails by the apartment. We've run some of them together, but we haven't gone as far out as we did last weekend. I should take the mountain bike out there at some point too. Well, time for bed. Good night!
