Oh god I am one-quarter-century old let's do a meme instead of thinking about that.
Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?
Jumping into the Pros fandom has fired up my muse like nothing else. I have never before been in a fandom where I want to write so many stories. I started my random fic-scene file on January 10. Now, 361 days later, it's nearly 1MB in size. I wrote 40 fics this year, and 30 of them were Pros fics or ficlets. So yeah, I wrote a lot this year.
Where did you publish/archive your stories?
On my LJ, on a couple of Pros communities, and on oxoniensis' Porn Battle.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2009?
Race Bannon/Benton Quest. We all knew I was going to write Bodie/Doyle, and I've done Dean/Ellen before. (And probably will again, canon be absolutely damned.) I would say I never expected to add Jack Harkness into the Bodie/Doyle mix, but everyone knows better than to be surprised by sudden, naked Jack.
Oh yeah, and I wrote a death-fic, too.
What's your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest?
Either
Carry That Weight or
Solstice. I really loved writing those, and I'm proud of the way they turned out. And Carry That Weight was my first real Pros fic, too.
Okay, NOW your most popular story.
...Maybe
Professional Courtesy. That was one of my favorite Porn Battle ficlets, and I was surprised at how many comments it got. (Of all the ones I've written, I think it's second only to
Call It A Draw, my first and only piece of stick-figure-porn-fanart.)
Story most under-appreciated by the universe?
Oh, all of them. *dramatic flounce* Just kidding! I was sad that none of my Pros fics in the latest Porn Battle got reviews, since I was not actually the only person to make Pros suggestions for the Battle, but looking back on them I don't think they were all that fantastic, so that's okay.
Story that could have been better?
...My Summer Porn Battle fics for Pros. I think some of them wound up rushed--although I do really like
Placebo Effect and
Look So Tired. In fact, Look So Tired is getting an expansion treatment that may, someday, even get finished.
Sexiest story?
Another Way To Die or
Tell Me, Dear or
Twentieth Century Boys. I mean, there's a reason it's called Porn Battle.
Most fun story?
You guys. Writing Pros is so. much. fun. I don't think I could pick which one I most enjoyed writing.
Story with single sweetest moment?
(Im)Patient, oddly enough. Probably Bodie's not-quite-tender kiss on Doyle's forehead.
The story that made you cry?
We Will Become Silhouettes, a drabble that I only ever posted to my own journal. I never thought I could do death-fic for Pros, and then I did, and I am both proud of myself and...really sad. In a sort of satisfied way, though, because it was on their terms, and they did get a bit of snogging in. And sometimes I like to pretend that the end is actually just a passing car's headlights and the bomb is a dud, so they have to deal with the fallout of Bodie's gonna-die-might-as-well kiss.
Hardest story to write?
Um, probably the two cricket fics for the summer DIALJ challenge:
Test Match and
Caught Out. I did a lot more research into the rules of cricket than I needed to for the fics themselves, but even now I still have a tendency to start typing "Quidditch" instead of "cricket."
Easiest story to write?
Possibly
Solstice. That one just kind of flowed, and I wrote about 95% of it in one sitting. I really should have bought my housemate a drink for knocking me awake in the middle of the nap-time dream that inspired it.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story
I would say it was
Real Adventures, the Race Bannon/Benton Quest ficlet, but really it's not that wrong. My inner child didn't even try to strangle me when I posted it, seriously.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters.
I think
Quis Custodiet really made Doyle clearer in my mind. I wasn't sure it worked until I sat back, read it over and thought yeah, he would do that. He'd hate himself for it afterward, but he'd do it.
Most unintentionally telling story.
Hm. I don't know if any of them were necessarily telling--although if you can think of one that reveals something secret about me, do let me know. :)
Most overdue story?
...The Advent-Pros action-figure story, which is, um, still not done. *shaaame*
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I wrote in a fandom that is overwhelmingly British and has been around for longer than I have been alive. Since I am not British and am a total newbie, I was pretty damned nervous about getting things right in my fic. But I've felt really welcome--since the fandom is so small, you get to know most of the other people pretty well, and I love that. Also, I learned that "scotch" is not generally capitalized--too late to save my first few fics from containing that mistake, though. ;)
Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?
To finish--and actually post--at least two fics of over ten thousand words. I have at least three projects that are already over that number, but they're nowhere near finished yet. I know Pros fandom is really into epic fic, and I want to try my hand at something longer than a couple of scenes.
And to remember to repsond to reviews. I noticed that I skipped over a couple of my fics when I was doing the round-up link list. *facepalm*
Total word count for 2009?
I think the stuff that I've written--not the stuff that I've posted, but the fragments and unfinished fics included--probably tops 200,000 words. Yeaaah. Posted stuff...I can't do math, but I'd be willing to bet it's probably 20,000 at least. So assuming my numbers are correct, I can keep parceling out fic for about ten years at this rate. :)
