I'm supposed to be writing my second thesis chapter right now, but I keep refreshing the election results to see what's up. The Democrats won the Ohio governor's race and picked up a Senate seat, and it looks like the Dems have taken the House--that's hot. Also, the real smoking ban (as opposed to the treacherously worded fake one) has passed, and so has the minimum wage hike.
But in my district, in my stupid stupid district, Jean Schmidt (R) is leading Victoria Wulsin with 51% of the vote and about 75% of the precincts reporting.
Jean Schmidt is a joke in Washington. SNL has mocked her. Even Rolling Stone has pointed out her suptidity. I still don't know how she won the special election in the first place, frankly. Everyone can see that she's dumb.
Except, apparently, my chaw-spitting war-mongering gay-bashing district of dumbass rednecks.
And I don't mean Republicans, I mean the special breed of stupid Republicans that inhabit southewestern Ohio. This is a woman who called a Congressman and war veteran a coward. Who has nothing to show for her brief stint in the house except making my poor little district famous--as a laughingstock. The R after her name does not stand for Republican, it stands for Retardo. What the fuck, people? If she wins, I am going to punch my district in the face.
EDIT: Now they're saying Wulsin and Schmidt are in a statistical dead heat--98% of the precincts reporting, giving Schmidt a lead of about 1,500 votes. I wonder if the absentee ballots are even included in that, and how many of the voting machines fucked up. It concerns me how unconcerned people are with the unreliability of electronic voting machines.
SON OF EDIT: And earlier tonight? Bitch gave a victory speech. Premature elocution, anyone?
GRANDSON OF EDIT: Looks like Jean Schmidt won, with approximately 51% of the vote. Fuck me.
FIRST COUSIN TWICE REMOVED OF EDIT: Wulsin might call in an investigative team from Washington. I hope she does, though I doubt it will reverse the results. Like I said, I don't trust the electronic ballots, and I really really don't trust Jean Schmidt. Damn it, we suck.
