LOST was a clip-show, right? Because I totally forgot to watch it.
See, I was reading Tithe, minding my own freaky business, and a 'ship occurred to me. Like, whacked-by-a-cricket-bat, stop-reading-and-stare-into-space-for-ten-minutes occurred. And then I turned the page and a plotbunny ate my face off.
I guess this is the true test of fanfic: am I writing for myself or for other people? Because nobody I know is in this fandom, and the sections of fandom I've perused (LJ comms and fanfiction.net) seem to stick to canon pairings (...if not to canon in any other way, shape, or form). Here's where I was going to quote C.S. Lewis, who said something to the effect of If they will not write the books we want to read, then we will have to write them; but it is very tedious. I may or may not have made that up, since it's nowhere on the Internet, but anyway. Faerie-tale slash. Slash itself is actually canon in the book, just...not these two characters. Or not one of these two characters. Or something.
You should all
read the book, though. Not because "zomg i'm writting fic plz r&r or i won't rite mor kthnx!!11!!" but because it's an awesome book. It's vivid and flowing and pretty urban fantasy. Don't start reading it in the bookstore, though, because if you do it might suddenly be three minutes to closing and the nice manager lady might be tapping you on the shoulder and you might be ignoring her because you just want to finish this chapter... ;)
PS: Here's a quote that C.S. Lewis actually did say: "Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, 'What! You too? I thought I was the only one!'" It's kind of how I felt when I first discovered fandom...
