Furthermore, if not wanting to be in love is what you mean to say by saying you'd "rather be the shepard", rather than to be sheep, that's a little offensive as well. Such a black and white metaphor suggests that the opposite point of view here (a.k.a my point of view) is sheep, and therefore inferior. In an discussion like this, though, neither perspective is inferior.

I know my thoughts must be clear now. Please do listen closely to what people say, and don't condescend by assuming quickly that people don't "understand where [you're] coming from" without allowing for thoughts to be shared first.

As for the monogamy vs. polygamy thing, a man won't be as close to his three wives as he would be to his wife if she was his only one, simply because if there is one, the two have eachother's undivided attention. The love between two best friends is not as personal and boundless as the love between two lovers can be. It can be dangerously close and test the two lovers' trust. If you think that a best friend and a marraige partner are the same, except for sex, then maybe you've never trusted someone so much that you've left yourself that vulnerable to them. I have, and I think it's exciting.
