1. The first thing were going to do is make a new Gradient Map. Go up to Layer>>New Adjustment Layer>>Gradient Map and use a black to white gradient. Or as its called a black and white gradient. Set the layer Softlight 45%.

2. Next is a Curves layer. Go to Layer>>New Adjustment Layer>>Curves and use the following settings;
RGB
Output: 146
Input: 133

3. Now a selective coloring layer is used. I wanted to brighten up the yellows and reds of the icon just a little bit. So go to Layer>>New Adjustment Layer>>Selective Coloring and use the settings bellow;

REDS:
-20,20,30,20
YELLOWS:
-100,50,100,0
MAGENTAS:
20,20,100,0

4. Take this Texture by ? And set it to Softlight 100%. I choose to erase some of the texture here and there, so feel free to do the same if you want.

5. Next go to Layer>>New Adjustment Layer>>Selective Coloring and use the settings bellow;

REDS:
48,30,22,0
CYANS:
100,100,0,0
BLUES:
100,-46,-100,0
REDS:

6. Next is a Brightness Contrast Layer.So Go to Layer>>New Adjustment Layer>>Brightness Contrast and use the following settings;

BRIGHTNESS: 53
CONTRAST: 39

7. And yet another Selective Coloring layer, I tend to use a lot of these when it comes to making icons. Go to Layer>>New Adjustment Layer>>Selective Coloring and use the settings bellow;

WHITES:
0,0,0,-100
WHITES:

8. Now, open up a new layer and grab yourself a paint brush. Any size is fine, as long as it fit’s the size of your icon. Using the color white, #ffffff, click anywhere on your icon. Now set the layers opacity to 20%. Doing this will add a brightness to your icon. So you can repeat the step as much as you like, and you can also adjust the opacity of the layer to your liking. I choose to duplicate my layer, so that I have the ‘ball of light’ as I like to call the layer in the top right of my icon and over the Zazu's beak.

9. Next were really going to add some contrast to our icon. I like to do this step a lot. It adds a crispness and brightness to whatever your graphic is. So First were going to make a copy merged layer. Go to Select>>All and than Edit>>Copy Merged and hit Ctrl V on your keyboard. This gives you a new layer which is a copy of the current progress of your icon. Now go up to Filter>>Other>>Highpass and use these setting;

Radius: 10.0

Set the layer to Softlight 100% Opacity. You may need to change the layers Opacity depending on your icon.

10. Take this Texture by bambinainnero And set it to Softlight 85%. I choose to erase some of the texture here and there, so feel free to do the same if you want.

11. Next I used the same steps that where in number 8. You can skip it if you wish and go on to step twelve.

12. And Lastly I made a new Brightness Contrast layer. Go to Layer>>New Adjustment Layer>>Brightness Contrast and use the following settings;

BRIGHTNESS: 5
CONTRAST: 0

And that's it! =D.

MORE EXAMPLES, SOME SETTINGS MAY HAVE BEEN ADJUSTED.
