let your bloated brain balloon and float away

I broke up with Aaron last night. I guess we both kind of knew it would happen, but it's still sad. We make good friends. We'd also promised each other that if at any point we didn't think it would work out, we needed to tell each other/break it off there. See, we'd already hit several snags that had made it tough to properly continue a ( Read more... )

Ashley, the second link that you sent is science. We actually can know what can be done now, through research and through reading legitimate material. It is not possible for someone to grow a second heart. That should be common sense.

The article that you sent is also fantastic news, and if you believe in God, then maybe consider it a miracle that we are using our God-given talent and intelligence to discover new ways of curing diseases. There is no reason to believe that God would not want us to do that.

...and you're right. That episode of Eternal (which is a ficitional television show...i.e. not information to support an argument) was about a congenital heart problem..not someone growing a second heart. I don't understand why anyone would argue hypotheticals or even topics which they are not fully informed on. If you want to have a truly successful debate with your father and brother, go armed with actual scientific evidence of the benefits, or the cons of stem cell research. This can only be done through reading journal articles or other legit sources (Google scholar is a good place to start for science/medicine journals). I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just pointing out that as you go through life, if you argue about things that make no sense people will fail to take you seriously. The best thing is to always say "I don't know enough on the subject yet" and leave it at that if you aren't aware of the facts. It's pretty easy today to find out if something is b.s. or legit.

What is a Pope Pius meeting?

We were driving in the car; researching a topic wasn't an option at that point, unfortunately.

I've never seen Eternal to be honest, although it sounds like a good show. The point of this entry is that I finally got my dad to see a point I was making about omnipotence, not stem cells. I don't take a stance on it because I can easily see both sides of the issue. It made sense in the car because we had limited information.

Pope Pius is this group that David's joined as part of boy scouts. I'm not sure exactly what they do because I've never been to one of the meetings, but I know it has something to do with the religious aspect of Scouting.

I of course do not mean researching mid-argument. I meant that if you are interested in something you find out the facts...otherwise you're not equipped to debate it. Again...not trying to be a jerk, just really blown away that anyone out there would take a story about a human growing two hearts seriously. The problem that I have with religious bases for arguments against stem cell research is that very few people actually know anything about it...and usually listen to these odd stories that come up. I'm not saying you're one of them, I just know it happens a lot.
