Interesting. I've been following the JKR/SVA trial and admit to being on the JKR side. I find plagiarism, or its legal term of copyright infringement, abhorrent.  For me, that's the crux of the issue. I think the book is infringing.But, I'm not a judge so I await the verdict.

There is much on the internet regarding the personal life of the author, SVA. Is this relevant to the book? It depends on whether the issue of character, integrity or credibilty are relevant. To copyright...I guess not. To the trial at large, sure.  Character matters. Whether its SVA or someone offering evidence or making a counterargument.

More and more BNF's are being drawn into the argument with each side accusing the other of hysteria and mud-slinging.  Suddenly, everyone's character is being attacked. It will be interesting to see if the fandom feud of doom continues beyond the verdict.
