I remind myself to do that at least once a week. It's been months since I last took my own advice. And there are some files which I deliberately haven't backed up - like most of the fifty-five chapters of Lessons in Metempsychosis and Saṅsāra - for no better reason than superstition.
But this morning at work, I reached into my pocket for the thumb drive which contains my writing life and it wasn't there. I don't actually remember putting it into my pocket, so it could be safe at home. Only, I usually stick in a pocket as a matter of course, so not remembering wouldn't be unusual even if I had picked up the drive.
I won't know the fate of my work for almost another eight hours. Not gonna panic unless I return home to find it's not there. And if it is there, I'll be taking my own advice, superstition be damned.
EDIT: Found! Now to back up those files.
