This weekend was full of some interesting suprises. It held the birthdays of two wonderful friends, blergeatkitty and laughingirl, with two different celebratory events. One of them commenced Saturday morning with what was supposed to be an 18-mile walk around the border of Manhattan to train for the Avon Walk. I'm really enjoying the training walks, despite the chunk of time the really long ones take out of my day. I get to see more of the city, or at least pay attention to more of it than I usually do. Hudson River Park is a great place, and sort of makes me wish I lived on the West Side somewhere. For some reason, our pace wasn't what we planned it to be, so we had to cut the walk short around 14.5 miles. I could have done more I guess, but really wanted the time to rest and get cleaned up for laughingirl's shindig. My legs were hurting, but I think if pressed I could handle the full 26 miles the first day. At least I hope.

Another nice surprise was the fact that as of Sunday night, I met and somewhat exceeded my fundraising goal! It's funny that when I first began this back in December, I thought I'd be lucky if I raised the required amount, and here I am seeing that I will be able to raise more than my original "ultimate" goal. Of course, I can't flatter myself to be as amazing a fundraiser as laughingirl, but it makes me happy that I can pull of something challenging. Well, at least so far...
