all from la bouqueria markets which were amazing!
tortoises at a random stall on la rambla! look at its tongue!!!! :D
gaudi architecture
gaudi's sagrada familia church
park guell, also gaudi.
good things about barcelona:
- la rambla and la bouqueria food markets where i had a coconut & strawberry juice, a fruit salad & a chocolate hedgehog
- maoz vegetarian take away food! they basically give you a pita bread stuffed with lettuce and felafels and you put your own salads on top, and their chips were really good and came in a cone too
- taking a walking guided tour of gaudi's buildings because we couldn't understand what was so special about them at first so having someone tell us the back story made it a lot more interesting
- cheap food! we had dinner for €1 one night (it may have tasted exactly how you expect food that cheap to taste, but that is beside the point) and we finally had a kitchen at our hostel so we bought some groceries and softdrinks for €7 which made the both of us dinner for two nights with it
- primark!!!
- elly and i both had friends who were in barcelona at the same time as us and we realised they were also travelling together (small world) so we met up with them & their two other friends and hung out in the sun near the water for the afternoon.
- all you can eat sushi buffet!!! which was not just limited to sushi, by the way. there was also fried food, salad, dessert, a self-serve ice cream bar and lollies! and all for €8.50 plus a drink. pretty much the greatest find of our lives!
- park ciutadella which we were pretty 'eh' about visiting at first but turned out to be lovely when we did
- going to barcelona zoo (which i will post the photos from in my next update because there were too many for this post)
- making friends with two american guys who were sitting next to elly (and i was across the aisle) on our plane to rome
bad things about barcelona:
- there was a huge strike on one of the days we spent there and it meant that absolutely no public transport was running and pretty much everything was shut so we basically had that whole day wasted.
- our hostel had literally NO signage so it was stupidly difficult to find
- so many creepy street performers along la rambla! i know some people love them (elly...) but there was one particularly gross monkey one. UGH. not a fan, hahaha.
- the gigantic fucking map that is the official map they give tourists - it's about as wide as your arms spread out completely and ours ripped right in half. oh, and there is nowhere near enough detail so it makes it really easy to get lost. f u.
- flying with ryanair to rome. the flight itself was fine, but apparently ryanair doesn't deem it necessary to inform people of the terminal that they're supposed to be catching their flight from. i know they're a budget airline, but i really don't think it would be going above and beyond to put the terminal number on the friggen ticket.
- dragging our suitcases all the way up la rambla to the bus stop to get the shuttle bus to the airport, which, by the way, cost €5.05 which is a reaonsable price except for the 5c on the end! what.
