afterelton takes an extended look at slash fandom and how it might be shifting the perception of being gay out there in the real world.

Has Slash Made the World Better for Gay Men?

They contradict themselves by first saying: "Our survey also found that interest in these relationships tended to skew very young - something that makes the exploding slash phenomenon a good predictor of future trends." and then later saying “But there was one thing that really surprised me about his show: namely, his fans were predominantly straight-seeming women forty years old and older. Out of the nine people right around me and my friends, literally, only two were non-forty-plus women.”

They never acknowledge that perhaps more younger female slash fans hang around on afterelton (well, it does have a lot of photos of cute guys) and that we older fans don't have time for surveys (oh lord, if I only had the time I had back in university when I thought I had no time) but otherwise, it's a pretty good intro piece.

And they should get the hell off my lawn too.
