My landlady called the other morning saying she had a handy-person on site and was wondering if I could take all the crap off my door so she could re-stain it. LOL (Not her actual words) So I said "Sure I'll get right on that." and they showed up while I was peeling them off. The woman came in, and looked around and said "Well the gang's all here!" and so I was taking her around the apartment and showing her everything and showed her the wall of shame, then while she was working I was musing if she thought I could convince the landlady to put in a peephole because it made me nervous to answer the door not knowing who was on the other side. She said it probably wouldn't be a problem as long as I mentioned it would make me more comfortable from a personal safety standpoint living alone and all.

I was addressing some cards and after about a minute she said "Usually no one talks to me."

"What, they just sit and watch you work?"

"Pretty much."

I didn't know what to say after that so sat and watched her work a few more minutes and she was gone. It really bummed me out though, that people are that dismissive. How much work is it to muster up 10 minutes of nice for someone coming to do work so you don't have to? She seemed perfectly nice and obviously had a good sense of humor. There's one of the handy-guys named Charlie who's a bit of a weirdo and likes to go off on political diatribes so I try to not get him going or nothing is going to get fixed. Everyone else I've had in to do work has been perfectly pleasant.

Later that night I was spectacularly drunk and decided to make spaghetti. I inexplicably cooked an entire package of spaghetti and dumped an entire jar of sauce on it and now have like 12 Chinese takeout boxes of spaghetti in my fridge I'll never be able to eat before it goes bad.

I'm reading a fanfiction that is so spectacularly good that I actually feel shitty about my own. It's been untouched for days while I'm engrossed in this one (it's 25 chapters and better than some stuff I've read by published authors.)
