While competing on season 8 of American Idol, Kris Allen became known for his often surprising, equally risky renovations to classic pop tunes. He broke out his guitar to make Michael Jackson’s “Remember The Time” a sped-up folk ditty, and stripped Kanye West’s “Heartless” almost bare with an acoustic rendition that some would say beats the original.
Now that he’s one the show and is about to release his self-titled debut album on November 17, he’s not done with his putting his own spins on the classics.
Allen gave a special mini concert to some lucky benevolent students at Seton High School in Ohio to reward them for raising over $5000 for the American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen fund. One song on his set was his “favorite song to sing in the shower.” That song? Britney Spears‘ debut hit “Baby One More Time.”
His cover for sure tramples any version we could sing in the shower, but to be fair, many don’t get to bring their guitars in.

Don't let this headline fool you: Kris Allen has not had sex with Britney Spears.
Instead, the American Idol champion has done something far cooler and far less disgusting: he performed a concert for the students of Ohio’s Seton High School because they raised $5,000 for breast-cancer research.
As part of his one-man show, Allen covered Britney's first hit, "... Baby One More Time" like only he can: with soul, passion and an acousting guitar.
The performance was reminiscent of his incredible "Heartless" rendition during his run to the Idol crown this spring. We'll purchase Allen's debut album when it comes out on November 17 no matter what.
But wouldn't it be cool if it was filled with nothing but acoustic versions of known songs? Watch the video of Kris doing Britney below:

Hit Me, Allen, One More Time: Kris Does Britney

First, Chris Daughtry covered Lady Gaga's "Poker Face"...and now another heartland-rocking Idol by the name of Kris--Kris Allen, that is--has taken on another big blonde pop-bombshell classic. Yes, the American Idol winner recently performed Britney Spears's "Hit Me Baby One More Time," and, as Simon or Randy or Kara might say, he made it his own:
Much like Britney's iconic video for the song, Kris's performance of "Hit Me Baby" took place on a high school campus--specifically Seton High in Cincinnati, at a concert to honor the students for raising $5,000 for breast cancer awareness. Amusingly, it was an all-girl school, so there were plenty of students wearing Britney-esque plaid kilts, which may have inspired the cover song in the first place. (The remake may have also been inspired by Travis's rendition, but that's just speculation on my part; Kris seems like a Travis fan.)
Anyway, Kris refrained from donning a signature Spears-y schoolgirl skirt himself, of course, but he did execute a few dance moves that were oddly, and most likely unintentionally, reminiscent of the "Hit Me Baby" video:
Wow. Just imagine if there'd been a Britney Night on American Idol this past season. Besides Kris doing "Hit Me," Adam Lambert could have wailed on "Toxic" and Allison Iraheta would have had a ball on "Womanizer." I have NO idea what Danny Gokey would've sung, though...

Kris Allen covers '...Baby One More Time.' Should this be a bonus track on his debut disc?

So Kris Allen apparently promised a concert to the 540 students of Ohio’s all-girls Seton High School if they raised $5,000 for breast-cancer research by today, and holy raging hormones, they did it! Nice as that may be, though, I don’t want to talk about altruistic acts or good causes here. Nope, I want to know if - after hearing Kris’ stripped-down, slowed-down rendition of “…Baby One More Time” - you think the American Idol season 8 champ should cover Britney Spears’ very first hit for his upcoming self-titled debut disc. I know, I know…on paper it sounds crazier than a reality show about touring Europe with Kevin Federline. But however you wanna slice it, “…Baby One More Time” is a hot-ass track, and Kris’ acoustic cover - which puts an emphasis on the tight-as-a-Botoxed-forehead melody - only serves to drive home that point. I’d actually love it if cagey Kris zipped back into the studio, cut an acoustic “Baby,” and made it a hidden bonus track on his CD. Hey, considering Kris’ fellow season 8 alumni - Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert - both worked with Martin on their upcoming discs, it would kind of complete the Swedish hitmaking circle of liiiiiife.
