It really shouldn't have been a surprise when she felt the bed shift behind her, alerting her that there was someone sleeping next to her, but it was. For half a heartbeat Angie felt a twinge of panic like she'd been caught doing something only to berate herself a moment later. Of course there was someone in her bed. She'd been married nearly 5 years. They shared a bed every night.
Oh God. Had they gotten so bad that it was like waking up with a stranger?
Slowly, Angie rolled to her back and looked at her sleeping spouse. It wasn't about love. No one had ever loved her the way Vance did. No one probably ever would and that was enough reason to stay. Factor in a daughter and that was reason to never leave. All couples cooled off. She read about it. Her girlfriends warned her. At least they were trying. A lot of couples don't even fight. No mystery why the divorce rate was so high. It was just that everything was such a compromise now. That was the way it had to be. She knew that. It wasn't fair to expect him to keep chasing her 13 years after she'd been caught but she still wanted to be pursued. Between day to day mom stuff and Vance, she was starting to feel like a pair of sweatpants. Comfortable but about the furthest thing from sexy a person could get. If that was how he saw her now it was no wonder they had sex maybe once a month.
To be fair, he tried more than once a month. Then again so did she but it seemed like when she wanted to do it, he was too tired, and when he wanted to, she wasn't in the mood. They were lucky if moods lined up but more often than not someone had to remind the other of how many weeks it had been and someone conceded. Another compromise. It was enough to make her cry.
Rolling onto her side, Angie's fingers lightly caressed his jawline. They knew his chiseled features even better than her own. She wasn't really trying to wake him up. If she was going for sexy and non-sweatpants, pajamas and bed head with sleep crusted eyes really weren't the way to go. She just wanted to touch. She shouldn't wake up feeling lonely when he was right there in her bed.
