Mac had done the PT Assessment months ago. Mac had told the training officers to go and take a fucking hike when they'd said she had to complete every aspect of the PT routine all over again. If anything, Mac was in a bit of a mood.

She did however pummel six shades of crap out of a punching bag, and then run nine miles at high speed. No one mentioned anything to her when she skipped the rest of the assessment and just went off in search of Ethan, because if anything could help her work this out, it would be talking to Ethan while exchanging soft blows.

She was the sort for better physical confrontations.

Mac's impending mood would be of no surprise to Ethan. He'd gotten the memo shortly after the results were in, the Doctor calling him immediately to inform the Captain that one of his soldiers was a mutant and that more specifically it was Jesse.

Surprised Mac hadn't come to rant at him soon Ethan had prepared himself for the incoming onslaught about not telling her and keeping secrets. Though in truth it was never his secret to reveal. But he'd accept any anger or irritation directed his way.

Ethan had been radioed ahead that Mac was refusing to partake in the full assessment and he'd just told them to take the results from her original assessment and carry them across. If any issues arose from that he'd deal with them himself. Watching Mac cross the field Ethan already had out the boxing gloves ready.

She was pretty glad then that Ethan actually took an interest, that he kept himself up to date, that he bothered her about what was going on sometimes. Hell, she didn't even want to start trying to explain things.

She'd catch shit eventually, she knew she would, but right then, he seemed to be humouring her a little. She picked up the gloves he had out for her, ignored any other safety gear and kicked off her shoes -she always did prefer barefoot.

"I'm not sure I want to talk about it yet," and she wasn't, she didn't even know where to start, "so can we just do this until my head makes sense?"

"Whatever works for you, just remember no low-blows and no facial shots." Ethan holds up his boxing gloves and waits for Mac to make the first move. There's probably things he should be saying to her, things as her Captain, as her leader and as her friend but for the moment he'll just let Mac work out her frustration through the physical and deal with the rest later on.

"Remember to keep your lower left side protected, I don't want to be bruising up your rib cage like last time." And it had been unintentional last time too, Mac had surprised Ethan with a move he hadn't anticipated but not covered her sides enough.

He'd apologised solidly for a week.

She makes a point of dropping her elbow to keep her side covered, and twisting her body to give her the degree of protection that will bring. She doesn't really care for any damage done, in her state of mind she just wants to get the aggression out. "Power up, pretty boy." And she does mean his durability, not his strength.

It's more her own brand of concern for him than any dig, because while she might not intend to go for the face, things happen. Mac has a tendency to get far too involved in their spars, and Ethan usually just flows with her to the point where they forget what they're doing beyond having a boxing match. It's usually more of a risk for him than her, since she does fight a little dirty at the best of times.

With him giving her the first move, Mac opens with a series of jabs, unconcerned with actually hitting him and mostly just having something to hit at.

Ethan already has his mutation in place, it's not that he doesn't trust Mac, instead it is a mixture of old habit and knowing Mac fairly well. She's not likely to try and hurt him for the sake of it or out of spite, but when she gets focused on something, working over a problem or issue, well she has a tendancy to forget it's her Captain she's trying to whale on.

Ethan blocks most of the moves, letting a couple pass his defences and lead Mac closer so he can retaliate with his own moves. Darting in Ethan keeps with the textbook rotuines that are drilled into them from day one, not spicing up their sparring just yet.

Whatever it is that is going on in Mac's head clearly needs to be worked out slowly, and in her own time.

She's not focused, she's not controlled, there are just jabs and cuts and far too much rage in her moves to ever have them really execute anything that might be productive. Mac's just getting out what she can, working off the energy that she wants to be shouting out, but she can't get, still too wound up to get there.

Even after a good five minutes of pitiful jabs and blocks on each side, and Mac would get mad at Ethan for holding back if she wasn't in a haze of frustration and anger and hurt.

"Y'knew, didn't you." She steps off from their agreed rules, taking a pot shot at his head. "You had to, you know everything, you're so fuckin' anal about it all." Her old drawl slips through, because she's still a Texas girl at heart, it was always where she was most at home, and the anger brings it out in her. "Fuckin' had to keep yer damn mouth shut."

She doesn't really know what she's most angry about. She's angry that she's even angry and it's just stupid. "Why the fuck do I even care, fuck sake."

"Only after he was tested, the Doctor sent me the results so that I could make a decision about what to do with Dylan. I've only known as long as he has Mac." He knows the anger isn't really directed at him, it's just a case of Ethan being there and Mac needing an outlet. It's probably best that she's taking her frustration out on him rather than some innocent soldier who happens to pick up the wrong tool in the garage or gets in her way. Even Shar Pei has commented on Mac's mood of late. "It was never my place to tell you either."

Blocking the blow to the head, and anticipating one being directed at his groin, Ethan picks up the pace. This time he's not holding back as much as he was before, he's trying to goad Mac into fighting back this time. Actually venting her anger against him.

He should be reprimanding her for use of foul language, especially directed at him but he'll mention it later when Mac is calmer and able to reflect on what she was saying and why.
