We're not outta this yet (ota)

For the most part, Rogue was not a social creature. By pure survival instinct, she closed herself off to a lot of things, and making friends was one of them. She had a few friends, just a few. A handful maybe. Of course, Spokane and then the illness, that shot all of that in the foot with a gallon of buck shot and a few sticks of TNT ( Read more... )

Getting back into tip top shape was the first level of agenda on Wade's to-do list once his bout of the virus had left his system. When he was strong enough to lift his body from his bed he set to exercising, eventually working back into his usual training regime.

But he'd turned to working even harder than normal. He would have to, if he was going to keep up with the likes of having both Victor and Daken in the camp at once. Their presence never bothered him, where normally nothing did. After continuous conversation with Haylie about her endless issues with the younger feral trying to give her more hassle than an angry pimp, Wade had decided that maybe Daken...didn't need to be there anymore.

The mercenary was no fool. He would plan this accordingly, and take his time. Wade thought on it every day as he trained, and as he began to walk back from the training field his gaze fell upon Rogue. And so the wheels began turning. They weren't exactly 'besties', but Wade decided there was no reason he couldn't go and ask her a question or two.

"Not to ah, disrupt your peaceful brooding, but I had some questions for you." He said abruptly, sheathing his swords to his back, moving to stand on the steps beside her. Yeah, Wade hardly ever got right to the point, but Rogue didn't look like she was in the mood to entertain the 'works', and he wasn't in the mood to give them.

Her 'peaceful brooding' could do with a little disruption, and frankly, even with Julio in her head, kicking up a fuss over Wade, Rogue couldn't work up the energy to really be bothered. "Sure," it was odd, that Wade would just jump right in there, but she wasn't going to question it. "What's up?"

It wasn't like they talked at all really, and they didn't exactly click on that mission so she was sort of curious herself.

"Your mutation, that whole 'can't touch' people thing. How does it work? You really kill people with that?" Maybe being this abrupt was in character for him. And why wouldn't a mercenary want to talk about how to kill people?

Wade imagined Rogue to be the type to not want to talk about these things. But he would give it a shot.

Her eyes narrowed into a glare. He was right, she didn't like to talk about these things, and frankly she didn't want to. But fucking Julio in her head made her mouth lose and her temper flare.

"Yeah, Ah really kill people. Only not like you kill people. See, when Ah touch a person, Ah drain 'em. I take over every lil' thing that makes 'em them, an' Ah steal it." She doesn't like explaining what she does, because she doesn't like what she does.

"Mah strength? Mah flight? That's all because Ah held ont' some woman an' didn't let go 'til there wasn't nothing of her left in her body."

Yep, there was the touchiness, just as he expected. But Wade had gotten his answers and it didn't seemed to bother him. Actually, he was generally listening and intrigued. If only he could just drain the life out of people. Sure, it wasn't classy and not as challenging as cutting them apart, blowing them up, or beating them with his fists--but it was appealing to him.

Folding his arms, he tapped at his chin as he thought a moment before speaking again. "Mhmmmmmmmmm.....And, have you ever tried that on another mutant that would normally be able to heal?"

"Y' mean a feral? Who just happens t' be a pain in the ass?" It wasn't hard to figure out. No one really genuinely liked the ferals too much; they were pissy and territorial and annoying and fucking assholes. Although Julio's soft sport and hero worship of Victor pissed Rogue off something fierce.

"They can be tricky," the fact that Wade wasn't just pissing people off, that he was asking because he wanted to know, that made a different. He wasn't picking at scabs just to see her bleed. Which was good. "If y' let go too soon they heal up in a few minutes, if y' hold on too long, y' got an angry lil' pup runnin' round y'r head, an' Ah really don't wanna have bone claws suddenly burst outta mah wrists, okay? It looks a little annoyin', probably kinda excruciatin' too."

Rogue already had a piece of Daken in her mind, from when he'd first tried to kill Rictor. "What's got you so interested anyway?"

The dark look that usually crossed Wade's face when they went on missions, or when he was being what most with a sense of humanity called 'cruel', set in his eyes. It was of course accompanied by a wide smirk. "Maybeeee."

"I was just curious." He wasn't about to ask Rogue to kill Daken for him. That just wouldn't be any fun. But the merc was smart enough that Logan wouldn't die, not without some sort of Nuke, or extreme pagan ritual. Daken would probably be the same issue.

To her question, he gave a light shrug, then decided he could finally sit down on one of the steps. He ran a hand through his messy brown hair before responding. "I'm not so much interested as doing...research. You know, it's what people do when they get rid of problems."

Rogue may not like Wade, but she didn't like Daken more. Daken was a problem, he was a loose canon and he was just there for the fun of seeing people at each others throats. Wade might be a little insane and a little too fond of killing for Rogue's tastes, but he wasn't a completely vicious socio-path.

"Okay, for y'r research. If Ah were t' touch a mutant that had healin' powers an' hold on for more than twenty seconds, they'd lose that healin' power for upwards of five minutes. Because it's a genetic trait, the powers kick back in quicker than most." The tests that Raven and Irene had done long before had heralded Rogue with this uncanny knowledge. It was something they were very keen on. Rogue knowing her powers.

"Now, if in that time frame, someone happened t' maybe deal a fatal blow t' this healin' mutant, well, that would really suck for them. Sorta levels out the playing field a little."

"And if that fatal blow was dealt, would it last, or would they just come back hunky dory like jesus?"

He was at least thankful that Rogue was playing along with him. Though, if she did end up helping him out more than he'd planned he'd have to remember to thank her somehow.

"Nope, no Easter time resurrection for them. You get in there fast enough, while the powers are out, that's it. It's like they're just any other person for as long as Ah've got their powers."

If it came down to it, Rogue didn't have any problem helping to take out Daken. Push came to shove, it was better the devil you knew, and Wade was just a more familiar pain in the ass than Daken.

"Damn. I'm so jealous." And truly he was. Sucking out the enemies abilities so hard it killed them, and you got their powers? Totally not fair.

If she had mentioned the whole business on the 'devil you knew', the mercenary would also point out he wasn't a rapist. But he wasn't doing this for Jesus points, and he didn't care who was worse. He wanted Daken gone. "And what would said killing blow giver have to do to get the help of your powers?"

"Sure, cause it's all jus' a walk in the park." Her powers were useful, it was why she was used the way she was. Information gathering was a speciality, just because she could suck out the information like some kind of leech. But it wasn't like she expected people to understand. It wasn't like she expected Wade to care.

"Tell me it's Daken, Ah don't need any more than that." The feral had tried to kill Rictor, and Rogue wasn't under the impression that just because he'd been drafted onto the team that suddenly everything would be fine and dandy. He could try it again at any time, and Rogue wasn't about to let it happen. Even if she was on rocky ground with Ric. "Y' want an even playin' field t' take 'im out, Ah'll lend a hand in that." Even if it meant suffering his voice for a few hours in her head.

Nothing was ever a walk in the park, even he knew that. But a guy could dream. His demeanor seemed to lighten in response to her obvious aversion to the feral. Wade smirked and gave her a wink. "Oh, it's him alright."

A part of him was surprised she was alright with helping him, more than alright, she was eager. But he wasn't about to complain. "Even the playing field...that's a nice way to put it. But yes. Yes, please." Ok, the last part hurt a little, even if he was being silly.

She's aware that people in the camp seem to have this image of her. That just because she's less keen on killing, she's some kind of wallflower. With Mystique around Rogue has no delusions as to just how long that will last. She doesn't really care either way.

"Careful sugah, you go throwing those pleases around and folks will think y've hit y'r head too hard." Although she has to wonder just what sparked the interest -not only in her powers and the effect of them, but the decision that Wade came to regarding Daken. "What's gotten you all gun ho about clearin' out the crazy anyway? Ain't it more fun for you if y' can stab someone an' they'll just get back up?"

makesppldead May 22 2011, 00:08:00 UTC
Ah, he should have seen this coming. Why couldn't they just let Wade have his crazy, no questions asked? Oh, because then things would be easy. That's right. This was a difference circumstance. Wade couldn't blow her off, she was going to help him. But he didn't have to be completely honest either.

"There's nothing fun about killing something that won't die. It defeats the purpose of killing and death in the first place. And for some annoying fuck like him to have it? Ew." A small shiver ran down his back. Wade made a disgusted face, shaking his head. "Oh and lets not forget that he's, you know, trying to rape half the people in camp."

"Ah dunno. Ah sorta like havin' certain ones around f'r punchin' bags. It's easier when they don't break." Although however much pleasure Rogue might get out of breaking Daken's face time and time again, there's nothing worth having him around for the long term and pissing everyone off in camp.

"Y' ain't all power jealous over the healin' thing, are ya? Cause really, it looks like it comes with being an unhygienic, animal like weirdo. An' y'r weird, but y' at least pass as human on the level. Those ferals just scream badger t' me." Rogue was convinced that those powers came part and parcel and refused to have to touch the likes of Victor or Logan for any length of time, no matter what sort of situation arose, she'd rather get impaled.

The other thing though, the rape thing. That's a surprise. "Seriously?" There are snippets, pieces of Daken in her head, but she hadn't actually investigated too hard on the feral. "Well Ah'm totally on board if y' need it."
