This was the first time Olivia ventured out in public again since that forsaken virus had shut her powers down. It had taken a while for them to be back completely and until she was certain that her mutation worked the way it was supposed to be she had tried to stay in her room as much as possible.
Part of her, albeit a very small one, had been glad to be normal for a little while. Being able to touch someone without needing a very good distraction from all the information rushing her brain. Being able to fall asleep just like that. But that part had been locked up successfully by the rest of her.
Days spent with only herself to keep her company hadn't done anything to improve her social skills. She was slouching in a chair in the mess hall, feet propped up on another seat, coffee next to her and eyes trained on a book she had found in the library. Thomas Love Peacock's Nightmare Abbey entertained her well enough, but not enough to be unaware of her surroundings. Every time she heard footsteps approach she looked up and glared at the person over the rims of her reading glasses.
