Not a Happy Camper - For Jack

Jan 24, 2011 21:09

The last time she was there waiting in his room, she was half naked and eager for a little company. This time Jack wasn't so lucky.

When it became clear that she wanted to be with Jack, she knew she was going to catch a lot of shit for it. Ironically, for all the same stuff that Jack persisted against her in the process. Namely, he was a mutant killer and she was a mutant actively fighting on the side of other mutants. So when she received almost non-stop scrutiny regarding her relationship, she was prepared. The others didn't know him the way that she knew him and without giving away too much of his background and reasons for his choice of vocation, she stood up for him. In fact, she was proud to be with someone so male and capable without even a need for mutant abilities. It was impressive and she wasn't impressed often.

However, when she heard the news of Allerdyce and what Jack had done, it was the first time in her their relationship that Betsy was ashamed she was with him. Aside from the obvious wrongness of it, he'd jeopardized the mission. He weakened the team and for what? Allerdyce wasn't a threat. He was a silly little pyrokinetic wanna be. I mean come on. He can't even create fire. He can only manipulate it. The amateur was lucky he even got to go on a mission like the grown ups. It was stupid, petty, and made her start to think if maybe he wasn't the alpha male she thought he was.
