Tyger, Tyger, burning bright....*OTA*

Daken had gotten the call while he was in Rome, finishing up another assignment. "I trust you've seen the news?" the voice on the other end of the line asked in Japanese. Daken stayed silent. Who hadn't? An earthquake of that size and magnitude, with the scope of the tragedy involved. Every news station in the world had been eating it up like ( Read more... )

Damn. The feral mutant had hoped his actions would go unnoticed for at least another hour. He wasn't sure how the man knew what he did, but Daken needed to do some damage control before his cover was blown. If Roy didn't know the specifics of what had occurred, Daken would hopefully be able to reign him in.

He plastered a look of very genuine looking concern on his face while inwardly seething at this kink in his plans. "No, I didn't see anyone injured, and I just came from that way. Why?"

Daken let Roy chatter on. Someone around here seriously needed to inform these mutants that telling everyone within earshot any little thing about themselves was a sure way to end up dead, or at the very least with someone extremely annoyed at them. But for now, it was proving to be an advantage.

He couldn't just let this nosy little empath go off and start telling everyone and their grandmother that somebody was possibly dead. Daken needed to take care of this problem now. "You know what they say about assuming. I dunno how empathy works, but maybe you just felt an animal's emotions or something. Tell you what. I'll walk over there with you and we'll both check it out." Separate one animal from the herd. It made it easier to take it down.

Daken knew Roy was concerned, but had no idea the empath wasn't picking anything up from him. Daken didn't know that the Japanese government had made sure to put permanent psychic blocks in his head to keep out any nosy telepathic intruders. Not that he would have cared if he did know. It was just one more advantage.

At least the man had agreed to go with him, saving Daken the difficult task of killing him in the middle of camp. "So, is empathy all you can do? They didn't really explain to us much about you mutants that were coming here." It sounded just like civil conversation, but Daken wanted to know just what he was up against here. Ignorance was no excuse for getting sloppy.

Daken could smell the lie in Roy's words, but of course, he kept silent about his own abilities. He wasn't taking any chances with this one, not by a long shot. He'd have to take him down quickly. He couldn't afford any noise that would give them away.

"Yes, it is." With an sudden flip that most martial artists would have envied, Daken was suddenly behind Roy, his claws out and at his throat. "Move and you die." Now, he just had to get rid of this nosy empath and pray no one noticed his disappearance from the camp.

Snarling, Daken immediately attacked the force field with his claws, only to be rebuffed. More cautiously, he poked the field with one of his claws, but it seemed that ordinary weapons did nothing against the field. Stupid idiot. It had been too long since he'd face mutants. He'd grown careless and sloppy. Now, his plan was on the verge of being ruined thanks to one stupid empath.

Daken looked down the barrel of the gun without any fear. "That doesn't matter. Now let me go, and I'll make your death quick. Persist in pissing me off-" He stabbed at the force field again, this time hard enough to feel the blow all the way up his arm. "-and I will make you beg for death before the end."

Daken could see that for whatever reasons, his claws were having an affect on the other man. He doubled his attack, scraping his claws along the inside of the shield over and over again. When it finally disappeared, he strode over to the other man, intent on ripping his throat out.

He crashed headlong into the force field that was around Roy. Rubbing his head, he glared at the prone form on the ground. "Clever bastard." He'd take care of this one later. For now, he needed to get going on his mission before anything else could possibly go wrong. Daken strode back towards the camp, leaving Roy's unconscious in the woods.
