The lab Katie worked in had neither windows or clocks, just smooth concrete walls all around. Although she normally welcomed the way the lack of visual interest forced her to focus, she tended to lose her sense of time. Mornings, afternoons and evenings bled together into a solid blur of work- regular mealtimes rarely took priority in her world- leaving her to stumble back to her room at night, dazed and wan.
So it was a rare moment that saw Katie lounging outside in the snow, taking a break from the monotony of her day. Admiring the feeble, watery sun that attempted to shine through the clouds, she leaned against the wall outside the door and breathed in deeply. Smiling in a vague, pleasant way at the MPs that walked past, she tilted her head back and let her eyes drift closed. Just a few more minutes before heading back inside...
