Bored was a dangerous state of mind to be in when you were a mutant hunter. It meant that either your mind was getting sloppy and slowing down, or that there hadn't been anything to do in a while. In Jack's case, it was the later. Granted, he had 'visited' Victor in his cell, and while he had come away with an extremely bruised throat out of the deal, he was sure the feral was feeling much worse with a hole in his shoulder. So here he sat, mercifully alone in the rec room, idly flipping through channels. TV had never held much interest for him, and he wasn't even keeping his good eye on the screen. Suddenly, a familiar song was heard. Clicking back a few channels, he watched as the familiar sepia tones of a Kansas farm were seen on the screen.
"Somewhere over the rainbow..."
In that little closet in his mind where he stored the memories of a life once lived, Jack recalled sitting on a couch with his wife and child, watching this very same movie on Christmas Eve. Amazing, how such a simple memory could be so happy. Reese had loved it, especially the Cowardly Lion. He had read the book to his son each night before he had fallen asleep He sat up a little more on the couch, turning up the volume just a tad. If any mutant came into the rec room, he would completely deny having any invested interest in the film whatsoever. But if anyone even tried to take the remote away or change the channel, he would feel no qualms in leaving them in a state bleeding and writhing in agony on the floor.
