Children + Cat = Bad idea? (OTA!)

Perhaps it wasn't the best idea, especially given how Martini as an adult had reacted to her, but Amanda found it easier to wander around the compound in her feline form. She was quite taken with it, truth be told, and she found that she learned a lot simply by sitting around and listening ( Read more... )

Jessie went to the mess hall to put the glass she had been using for water in the dish washer. Lost in thought, she almost tripped over the chocolate brown cat. "Why hello there," she said holding down her hand for the cat to smell her fingers. "Where did you come from?"

Amanda was trying to stay out from underfoot, but moving in the kitchen was becoming a chore. She was leaving the corner to cross the room when another child nearly stepped on her. Her fur raising a little, she shook herself and then turned to face Jessie, her eyes moving over the girl.

She didn't recognize her. But she also didn't sniff. Considering Jessie for a moment, she hopped up onto a chair and sat down, yawning.

"Pretty kitty," she watched the cat hop up onto the chair. Gently, she reached over and petted the cat's head and scratched behind her ears. Then she went and put her glass in the dishwasher. A little hungry, Jessie went to the fridge and pulled the door open.

She opened the veggie drawer and found an apple, she saw a package of left-over chicken and wondered if the cat would like some of it. She pulled open the package and took a couple of pieces out. Closing the fridhe went back to the table where the cat was sitting. Putting the apple on the table, she clambered up into a chair next to the cat.

"Here, kitty. You hungry?" She offered the cat some of the meat.

Maybe it wasn't quite right, enjoying a good ear scritching, but Amanda had grown up in the circus and everyone was affectionate there. She purred a little and then watched Jessie, trying to decide just who the girl might be and if she knew her.

As Jessie came back with the chicken, Amanda debated it but didn't go after it like a normal cat would. She sniffed it and fought her feline instinct to gobble it down whole. Tucking her tail around her feet, she gave what she hoped was a polite decline. She would get herself a sandwich later.

That was strange. The cat didn't gobble up the chicken right away, she didn't even sniff at it to determine if it was OK to eat, like most cats would have. Jessie didn't want to waste the meat, so she ate it herself.

The cat was sitting statue-like, watching her. After wiping her fingers on a napkin, Jessie reached over and scratched the cat's ears again. It seemed to like that well enough. She had purred a bit the first time anyway.

Jessie hadn't seen the cat around before and started to wonder if any of her team-mates could transform into a cat. Though she was thoroughly enjoying petting the cat and scratching gently around her ears.
