Can't be happy all the time. [For Victor; with threadcrashing by Manuel]

Dec 04, 2009 16:44

Despite the weird circumstances going on around the camp, Allison was happy. She was back on a team and things seemed to be going well. She was back with Manuel, and things had never been better. The link was back open, and she hadn't realized how much she missed it. She never had the phantom limb pain type feeling when it was gone, which was ( Read more... )

Manuel rubbed his hands down Allison's upper arms, his thumbs caressing her shoulders as he tried to weigh her emotional state. She was a wreck. There was something more going on here than whatever met the eye.

He frowned and then nodded, feeling her panic and fear rise again. He tamped down the panic, then the fear, pulling himself up and guiding her along with him. "C'mon. We'll go back to my room." Shooting a glare over his shoulder at the MP, he snarled.

"What are you looking at, cabron? Get out of here."

She stood up with him, leaning into his side and sliding an arm around his waist. Even if she didn't like the idea of Manuel messing with her emotions, Allison was glad to feel her heart slowing in her chest. It was so much easier than waiting it out, considering that she would probably have to be carried away.

Moving slowly, she clung to Manuel until they reached his room, then she shed her clothing down to her underwear and t-shirt, crawling into Manuel's bed. She just wanted to curl up in his arms, let the world fall away for awhile.

It was then, and only then, that the uproar started in her mind. How could he have known? He knew it from Manuel's perspective, like he'd been Manuel; he knew things there was no possible way any person other than Manuel could have known, because she sure as shit wasn't telling anyone. But neither would he...

"Fuck," Allison cursed, pressing her face into the mattress as she coiled into a tight ball.

Manuel would have carried her if he hadn't thought she would have hated it. She didn't need to feel weak right now. She needed to feel strong. He helped her towards his room, unlocking the door with one hand before he shouldered it open. Pulling her in, he stripped off his own boots and pants, sliding into the bed with her. He pulled her close and winced as she cursed, his hand curling around her shoulder as he pushed hair from her face.

"Querida. Tell me what happened."

She was resistant to tell Manuel anything. It was easier, keeping the crap that had happened over her time with Weapon X a secret from him. If she told him, then it was more real. It happened, and not just to the blonde girl who burns shit. He knew her better than anyone else. He'd know everything.

But this was different... This he needed to know, simply because it involved him now.

"He was saying things," she said into the bed, turning as his hand pulled her hair away from her face. "Talking about things he couldn't have known and somehow did." Her heart throbbed in her chest and she moved into him, leaning her forehead against his chest. "Things about us, really intimate things." Allison shuddered slightly at the thought of him knowing about the mole on her thigh.

"I've had problems with him before, too." Her body trembled slightly, and she moved in closer to him.

"Things...how could he have known those things? Did he listen in on us?" Manuel's fingertips brushed over her warm cheek and he felt a frown knit onto his face as her emotions cracked his calm like a bat to a windshield. He closed his eyes and grabbed a hold of that arrogant calm he used to control himself and he took a deep breath.

"What do you mean you've had problems with him before?" he asked, his voice quiet and calm. Allison would recognize the tone. It was one he used whenever he was truly angry about something.

"That's what I thought at first too, maybe he was just being a fucking creep, but..." Allison cringed, her jaws locking as she tried to force herself to tell Manuel what didn't make any sense. Sighing, she looked up at him. "You know that mole I have? The one on my inner thigh? He knew about that. And he knew about things I ask for and..." She trailed off as she started to feel sick. "Things I ask for with you, and only you."

Allison went quiet as he asked what problems she'd had with Creed before. She didn't want to tell him. He didn't want to know. But he was asking, and the situation was just so fucked. "I... You remember in the gym? When we were sparring and you pinned me and I freaked out? He's why I freaked out."

Manuel's look turned more murderous, if it was at all possible, and he growled beneath his breath. He couldn't imagine how that bastard had known about that and the fact that he did made Manuel's anger spark into a flame. "How the fuck does he know about that?" he snarled. He wasn't angry at Allison, but the fucker who'd terrorized her.

He felt her tense and her emotions roared at him. He froze, cold washing over him, and he grit his teeth. "What. Did. He. Do?" he asked, each word bitten off. He could only imagine.

And he already wanted to kill the man.

Allison flinched slightly at his tone, not at all afraid of Manuel just hypersensitive at the moment. "I don't know, but he does. And he was just... taunting me." She closed her eyes and tried to push the look on his face out of her mind; that smug sense of satisfaction that he'd figured out a way to get to her again, this time without even having to touch her.

The silence after Manuel's question rang loudly in Allison's ears, waiting for her to fill it with that answer. She didn't want to tell him. It was easier for him not to know. He didn't want to know. She felt like he'd see her as weak, even if she had been able to fend him off. Sighing quietly, Allison looked at him, biting her lip as hot tears broke free from her eyes again. "You don't want to know, baby."

It was an automatic reaction and if he'd actually thought about it, he wouldn't have done it. He reached out, soothing Allison's fear and her hurt. He forced his own anger down, thankful that he could do that, and he waited for her to speak.

When she didn't, a terrible feeling settled into his gut, leaden and cold.

"Allison. Did he..." he didn't even have to finish his question. Her tears were enough to clinch it for him. "Son of a bitch!"

"No, baby. He didn't. He tried, but he didn't." Her voice was wavery, and she tried to back it with conviction. "I flamed up and torched him. I knew he'd heal. I should've held on longer..." She sighed heavily, feeling the fear ebbing away once more, the tears in her eyes drying up again.

It was handy, dating an empath. She'd had six months to deal with the panic and fear on her own, and she knew how long it took it to go away. To be able to lie there without shaking the bed with tears was a nice change. She curled into Manuel.

"I don't know how he knows any of it, Manuel. But he does. And now he can get to me again."

He took a deep breath as she told him that Victor hadn't raped her, but the mere fact that he'd tried made Manuel's anger flare. He was perversely proud of her for standing up for herself, though he was now wishing that she'd succeeded in really torching him.

"I don't either, Allison. I'll find out though, one way or another." He murmured against her forehead, forcing his anger under. At least for now. There was a fine tremor in his limbs and he fought it down, wanting to be strong for her.

He wanted to kill that man, though.

Allison sighed heavily, pulling herself in closer to Manuel, twining her legs with his and generally just trying to be a part of him instead of separate. It hurt to know that he'd found out about this, and in such a fucked up way. She hated Victor for forcing this out between them and wished him the most torturous death she could possibly imagine.

She felt Manuel shake, and when she focused on the link between them, she could feel how angry he was. She'd been so wrapped up in her own emotions that her consciousness of how he was feeling had been lost in the shuffle. She slid her arm around him and rubbed the flat of her hand along his back. "There's nothing else we can do right now, mío." She worked up the strength in her voice and focused on her own calm.

"I love you. And thank you."

Manuel would have opened the channel between them further, but his own emotions were scattered and strong. His anger, his hatred. He wanted to beat that man senseless for trying to harm Allison. His hurt. How could she keep this from him?

He locked down his own emotions, flooding himself with calm. Forcing himself to calm. It was difficult.

As she spoke, he inhaled slowly and nodded. He snatched that calm, using it to bolster himself. To bolster her. He didn't like fighting his emotions and he didn't like them controlling him. "I know, I know." he whispered, brushing his fingers down her arm. "I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect you."

"You did, baby. You got there in time." She scooted up until her head was on the pillow next to his, looking into his eyes. She let her nose brush along his as her hand slid over his back. Manuel was always the strong one, and she'd had at least a little time to try and cope with what happened. It was all new to him.

"I'll be okay. I just... Wasn't expecting it, that's all. Most of the time, I can deal with Creed fine. I can usually ignore him, which I was trying to do tonight. He just..." She shrugged a little, then shook her head. "Just forget it for the night, okay?" Allison leaned in and pressed her lips to his, staying there for a long moment. "Let's just worry about us."

She was talking to herself as much as she was him in that moment.

"No. I should have been there before. When he tried to hurt you. When he succeeded." he frowned and slid his hand over her arm. Her hurt, her pain, her fear. It was all packed into a tight ball inside of him and he refused to let it out. He nodded shortly and then squeezed her arm.

"I know you can. You're strong. Stronger than me, sometimes." he grunted, staring up into the darkness. His eyes traced the ceiling and he turned his face to hers, returning her kiss with a soft almost halfheartedness to it.

He didn't know how not to be pissed right now. His anger was eating his gut. He wanted to go back out there, prove he was a man who could take care of his woman, and beat the shit out of the man who'd thought he could hurt her.

"Baby, no." She shook her head and hugged him, resting her cheek against his. "Your not being there was my decision, not yours. And you're so much stronger than me." Allison pulled back and looked at him, a tightness in her chest suddenly apparent. Her fingers came up to stroke along his brow bone and down his cheek ( ... )
