Wisdom arrives. [OTA, nudge Kat]

Nov 20, 2009 19:46

Wisdom arrived under the cover of night, the Jeep carrying him the hours from St. Petersburg in silence. It wasn't that he was expecting a lavish display, since he needn't be wooed by Stryker to come to Siberia and bore himself stupid. He'd chosen to go there.

What the fuck, he'd chosen miserable cold and a girl he'd barely spent more than three ( Read more... )

Kat glanced over Pete's shoulder at the brunette and gave her a look. She wasn't impressed and as much as she wanted to punch the girl the fact of the matter was that it was neither here nor there. Losing her temper at the woman wouldn't do anyone any good.

Turning her gaze back to Pete, she blew out a soft breath. "I got shot." she answered, before changing the subject. "Seriously? Her?" She'd never seen the woman before in her life, but wow. Talk about getting off on the wrong foot.

His concern drifted from his face as Kat expressed her jealousy. "Hey, she greeted me at the door. I was just going to slip inside and find my room." He shook his head, then the realization that she'd explained what happened sunk in.

"How in the cock did you get shot??" Wisdom's eyes bugged slightly, and he stared at her.

Kat gave him a piqued look and her lips thinned. "Mhm. Find your room and slip inside's more like it. You couldn't have waited until you set your bags down, Wisdom?" she asked, her voice raising a little.

At his question, she rubbed her wrist and then frowned. "My bracelet malfunctioned. I'm fine."

He rolled his eyes and shook his head, letting out an irritated sigh. "The jealous act isn't cute right now, Katherine. Knock it off." He was actually concerned, and for once, he wasn't being a pig. Shocking as that was to everyone involved.

Wisdom looked to her bracelet and back to Kat, his brow lifted high in a skeptical gaze. "Malfunctioned? Really. When was the last time that thing malfunctioned?"

"It's not an act..." she snapped, before she quieted down. He was genuinely concerned and that surprised her. Shelving her anger at the Asian woman and Pete's interaction with her, she sighed.

"Never. Not once." she answered, before shivering. "Wanna take this inside?"

Wisdom unzipped his coat and slid it off, putting it around Kat's shoulders, sliding his arm around her after. He stooped briefly to grab his bag, then swiped the identification keycard he'd been issued in the Jeep.

"Tell me what happened, Kitten."

Kat sighed, walking along with him. She didn't want to admit to herself, but she already felt better having him here. "We were getting away during the mission and we were fired on. I went back to phase what we'd retrieved and I got hit in the side. Simple enough story."

She glanced at his keycard and smirked. "We don't need that, you know. We can just walk right in."

He scoffed at her story, shaking his head. There was no way that it was that simple. While this was his first day, it wasn't his first day dealing with Stryker. There was something fishy going on. Wisdom looked at her, then shrugged. "If you say so."

There was an eyeroll and he smirked at her. "They gave it to me because they wanted to know when I got into the building, I'm sure. Which way to the dormitories? My welcome wagon seemed woefully unprepared."

Glad that he was leaving the story alone, because frankly, the more she dwelled on it, the more paranoid she became. Stryker couldn't want her dead. If he did, he'd just have had one of the team do it, surely. She banished the thought, her anger dissolving as she realized just how happy she was that he was here.

She chuckled and nodded. Sounded like the program. She phased through the door herself and then glanced back through the glass, smirking and pointing towards the dorms. She stepped back as he opened the door and then she laughed. "Could have been worse. Could have been one of the antisocial crew. So, men's dorms that way...women's that way."

He shook his head slowly as she showed off, rolling his eyes a little. "It's lucky you train so much. You'd be fat, what with how lazy you are." He glanced down the hall toward the men's dorms, then quirked a brow toward the women's dormitories.

"And where's your room?" He grinned down at her, leaning in to press a quick kiss to her lips.

He wouldn't admit it to her, but he'd missed her.

"Har har har." she rolled her own eyes, shaking her head. She'd never tended towards anything but scrawny, no matter the way she ate or how lazy she was. She would have liked to have had a body a bit more like a woman's, but she was sure there were women who looked the way she wanted who wanted to look the way she did.

"Down the hall. Name's on it." she laughed, returning his quick kiss. She slid her arm around his neck and kissed him again in a way that was probably not appropriate for a hallway.

"Good to know," he murmured against her lips, gathering her into him as she kissed him with a little more hunger. Damn, he really did miss her. The sudden drive for her was what alerted him to pull back. Wisdom refused to let her know that she was his reason for coming here. He refused to let anyone know that.

Backing off, Wisdom stepped back from her, his fingers grasping her chin and his thumb brushing over her bottom lip. "I'm knackered. Meet me in the mess hall for breakfast tomorrow, Kitten." He winked at her, grinning like an asshole. He knew she'd be angry.

Kat winced but didn't stop him. He didn't know she had a stitched up hole in her side, now did he? She slid her arm back as he pulled away and she frowned, her gaze suddenly stormy.

One eyebrow raised up and she gave him an incredulous look before she folded her arms across her chest. Ow.

"...fine." she answered, Huffing softly, she took a few steps towards him and walked right through him, snorting softly. She was not going to let him see how hurt she was by his refusal.

Wisdom stepped back instinctively before stopping, realizing Kat had decided to pout. He snickered a little, biting his lip and shaking his head. "Don't be a child, sweetpea." He raised a brow and grinned at her once more, then set off for the dormitories at a quick clip.

That was Asshole in 3 Easy Steps. One, push away. Two, insult her. Three, call her by a nickname used only when he's being a prick. Then again, it was easier for her to be mad at him and win her back by being charming than it was to let her know how he felt about her.
