((Mission for Allison, Kat, Laura, and Logan. OOC thread for discussion is here.
Suggested posting order: first come first serve, then stick to that order.))Envelopes marked 'confidential' were never a good sign. Even less so when they were also marked 'urgent'. Logan sat down on his bed before reluctantly tearing the envelope open. A mission. ( Read more... )

Allison was glad to receive summons for a mission. A - it meant getting the hell out of the compound for awhile, and not just outside; B - it meant clearing her head of all the Manuel crap. That second part was a driving force as to why she currently looked like she was going to twitch herself right off the transport.

She needed to get down there, do her distraction thing, let off some steam, and figure out how long it would take her to pack her shit when she got back.

Under one hand was a silver, flame retardant blanket that she was going to have nearby for when all was said and done, and under the other was a spare uniform. Once they got on the ground, Allison needed a cigarette.

At least the bad mood was keeping her quiet, right?

Kat made her way to the garage, having actually slept the night before. It had surprised her, falling into such a deep sleep, but she'd welcomed it. She hadn't talked to Wisdom for the day, still being pissed at him, and she walked through the all into the garage with a smile as she spotted Logan and Allison.

"Hey. We doing this thing?" she was antsy and nervy, eager to go on her first mission with an actual team.

Laura arrived shortly after Kat, eying the new faces a bit warily and taking a slight step closer to her twin. Why hadn't she had time to at least get to know her mission partners? She tried not to frown at the idea of working with people that she knew next to nothing about, even casting a brief glance at her genetic twin for some kind of reassurance. He didn't seem too bothered by it but that didn't help X23 all that much.

She simply waited by the vehicle, watching the group.

Logan waited for everyone to arrive at the garage, barely acknowledging their presence when they did. Only Laura got a little nod, since something seemed to be off. She almost seemed nervous, but it couldn't be that; she was quite literally made for this sort of thing, much as Logan hated to think about it.

"Let's do this."

In a few short sentences, he repeated their mission brief, stated his plans for doing what they'd have to do, and explained the rough timeline they'd have to follow. He also repeated the instructions that there would be necessary violence only, looking pointedly at Allison when he said it.

Normally, this sort of thing would have been done on the plane, where it couldn't be overheard - but there lay the problem. Once they got on the plane, Logan wasn't in the mood for talking. He actually managed to squeeze out a monosyllable here and there, but that was it. One of these days, he should really get used to planes. But this was not that day. Parachuting down was almost a relief.

Allison rolled her eyes at Logan as he seemed to think that she was the one to supply unnecessary violence. Victor wasn't there; she'd be fine. She felt the thrill in her stomach as she hurled herself out of the plane, allowing herself a slightly longer than she was supposed to free-fall.

They landed, and after stowing their chutes they were off to camp. Antsy didn't begin to describe Allison's mood, and she milled around camp long into the night, when she should've been resting up. Instead, she paced, chewing on her fingernails until they hurt.

Kat wasn't like Logan, but then, she didn't have anything to fear from heights or planes. That being said, she didn't bother with a parachute. She didn't have to. Jumping from the plane was exhilarating. Keeping herself solid for most of the fall, she phased as soon as she would have pulled a chute.

Landing on the ground easily, she grinned at the others, pushing a hand back through her hair before she twisted into a ponytail.

"That was fun."

That over with, camp was set up and Kat milled around, still in a reasonably good mood. She loved missions and this one didn't seem very different than the ones she'd been on before. She fell asleep fairly quickly, leaving Logan and Laura to keep watch until the morning while she and Allison, the only two who needed sleep, got it.

Every bit of this was just routine for Laura. The silent plane ride. The jumping. Parachuting in. When Kat said it was fun, she raised an eyebrow slightly but said nothing. This wasn't Edie on a mission, standing around and being obnoxious. Kat actually seemed to take it a little more seriously.

Laura sat and waited as the two others slept, holding almost perfectly still for most of the night. It was likely she probably wasn't going to say a whole lot during this mission, if she said anything at all.

An hour or two before daybreak, everyone sleeping was woken up. Logan had been up for a couple of hours already, having taken the first watch. Laura didn't go to sleep during the second. He wasn't really surprised. Even though they didn't talk, it was nice to spend some time together ( ... )

Kat had studied the map and checked to see where exactly the warhead was being held. Phasing out things like that was always tricky, but she'd been able to manage thus far. She smirked at Logan and offered him her hand.

"This might be a little disconcerting." she pulled them both through wall after wall, making sure that they avoided the guards, and soon they were staring at the warhead.

Silently, Kat glanced at the weapon, raising an eyebrow at Logan. She could phase it out but she wasn't sure she could lift the damned thing. It had to weigh a ton.

Logan was a little hesitant, taking Kat's hand, but he did it anyway. God only knew why, but he trusted her. That didn't mean he liked what she had to do, though.

"Disconcerting?" he asked when they were finally inside, practically glaring. That wasn't disconcerting, it was downright sickening, going through things, feeling them go through you. He was never doing that again, if he could help it. Of course, with his luck, he probably couldn't.

The warhead was big and heavy enough that they wouldn't be able to carry it out, but Logan hadn't expected them to. There had to be something to move it nearby; it wasn't a museum piece, meant to stay there forever. Looking around, Logan's eyes settled on an open jeep that was in the building.

"Get that jeep over here."

He himself jumped on top of the table the warhead was lying on, flexing his arm muscles. Should be able to do it. He only had to lift it for a little bit - or carefully drag it into the jeep.

Kat chuckled, wincing a little. "Sorry, there's no good way to warn someone about that, really." She murmured, pulling her hand from his as she moved towards the warhead.

"Yes sir." Catching sight of the jeep, she nodded and jogged for it, quickly getting into the back.

There were no keys, but hell, hot-wiring was easy. Starting the vehicle, she carefully backed it closer to the warhead, taking pains to ensure she didn't get too close.

Logan waited until the jeep was as close as it could safely get, then jumped in the back. He carefully lifted one end of the warhead, dragging it off the table to lean it into the jeep, before moving to the back and lifting that side in. If he dropped this thing, he would be royally fucked, healing factor or no healing factor - but everything went well. Getting to the front of the jeep, Logan opened the door on the driver's side.

"Move over."

With their objective in their possession, it was a matter of waiting until the five minutes were over - not much longer now - before they could drive off, hopefully without being spotted.

Kat scooted over and smirked at Logan's order and she sat back, waiting for the diversion to start.

And there it was. The quake of the ground. Her eyes widened as she felt it and heard the alarms start to go off. She tensed, but out of excitement. She needed to stay solid for now despite the fact that she wanted to phase.

"You drive into a wall, I'll phase us through it. Just in case, alright?" she grinned at Logan.

The alarms began, the sharp sound almost painful to Logan's ears. He was all business now, not as appreciative of Kat's humor as he might have been. He wasn't even worried about the phasing much. Much as he hated it, he knew it had its uses.

"You watch the walls, I'll get the door," he said, stepping on the gas to drive them most of the way there. They needed to do this fast, pick up Laura and Allison, and get back to the pick-up site.

Hitting the breaks, he jumped out of the jeep, dragging open the doors. There was still a guard outside, who began to protest - not as loudly as he might have, thanks to Allison's antics distracting and confusing him - and Logan dragged the man into the building before he could reach for his gun, pushing him against a wall hard, and hitting him, that second blow to the head knocking him out. Leaving him lying where he was - no time for cleaning up; no need to when their presence was already being announced so loudly - Logan got back in the jeep, driving off.

Kat nodded once as he floored the gas and she kept her eyes open, watching to the sides of them for any guards. So far, so good. Nothing but luck. Nah, screw luck. They were just good. She watched Logan, impressed. She'd be lying if she said that she wasn't ( ... )

Assisstance tag from Allison! flowlikemagma November 16 2009, 20:22:23 UTC
The rain of gunfire was doubled now as more gunmen made their way to the roof. Allison fed heat to the flames burning up the tree, stepping into them when she felt herself tagged by a bullet. The whole thing was getting old, and she was getting anxious about where Kat and Logan were in their escape with the warhead ( ... )
