From the White House

Jul 20, 2009 11:54

Hey everyone, I'm a longtime reader first time poster. This may be old news to many of you but a week ago the White House posted the following video about the economy, job creation and the nature of work they project many US citizens will be doing in the next 5-10 years.

To it's credit, the Obama administration has done a wonderful job of using the internet to communicate directly with citizens as to it's goals and methodology. I thought I'd post it here because of it's obvious implications for the people in this community.

Just a thought, she says towards the end that a lot of the job growth projected is in the medical field, alternative energy and infrastructure building at least in part as an effort to create out-source proof jobs. I know that the US's chief export is still feature films (as opposed to aerospace tech in the 90s) but can an economy based in the development of infrastructure, health care and education compete in a globalized world? Is there a fundamental problem with an economy that imports massive amounts of goods from overseas without evening the scales by producing an equal or greater amount of exportable goods? I mean, we can't just rely on Hollywood and Twitter and ad revenue forever... can we? (I don't have an economics background so I'm asking these questions with earnest sincerity)
